I had a feeling my handbrake was stuck on slightly as when i was on a slight slope the car wouldnt move with no brakes applied and Was not gettin very good mpg compared to my mate who has the exact same car. (ibiza fr tdi)

Jacked the back end and neither rear wheel wud turn by hand so i look into it further and found out the calipers were stuck on. Stripped down the calipers and pads, cleaned everything and copper greased pads, springs etc, mpg
went up for about 3/4 weeks then i noticed my mpg had gone back down to what it was before.
So today i stripped everything down and cleaned everything again.

Does anyone know what could be the problem as i shouldnt have to keep stripping them to clean them ? (sliders were free, pads had loads of life in them)

thanks

Maybe try the "old" Sharan return modification. Each time you clean them up I'd reckon that you are resetting the handbrake mechanism - by fitted the external springs you might just stop the tendency for the levers not to return fully.

Try using "HANDBRAKE RETURN SPRING" in SEARCH and you will find a topic named "Rear brake dragging" - its all in there or other areas to look in are named in there, the listed part numbers are still correct - you will need 2 different springs, in your case, make sure the complete rear callipers are cleaned up and both pistons retracted before fitting the new springs. After fitting the new springs, you might need to lengthen the handbrake cable from inside the car to compensate for the levers now being fully returned to their stops.
