need a fourth year service on my lcr, only done 26k but they(the stealers) say need a cam belt change!? they quoted 300 forservice plus 300 for cam belt change!
what have you guys payed and do you think i need to do it just yet? cheers

60k or 4 years though, so not trying to rob you as you say... and 100 for parts is about right, but 300-450 right including labour costs

Dont skip cambelt intervals, My cambelt was 5-6 yrs old and 34k, and cracked to hell, so needed doing,

£250-300 for a cambelt change or 500+ for 20 valves to dance on top of pistons!

realistically id say about 450 all in sevice and cambelt is a reasonable price,

I Went to Midland VW.

The timing belt, tensioning roller, relay roller, water pump and coolant is £260 inc VAT and the full service; oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter, plugs, inspection, diagnostics, road test is £120 inc VAT.

So it was £420 all in for me.

Good luck in sorting it :)

a mechanic mate of mine says his book that lists all the timing belts and how they fit show the BAM engines as 120K miles.

what is the correct milage?

shown this before, but just as an example, 35k miles and 5-6years old, You can see the belt deteriorating, remember you have all 20 valves running off one cam pulley, not like a conventional DOHC

I think VAG reviewed the 120k figure. I'm sure my parents said it quoted 120k in their Audi book but the Audi dealer advised sooner.

As others have said 120k can be far too long. Pics of failed waterpumps at 60k are scary enough :)

ah bugger, would they be doing that as standard with the cam belt change then or something i have to ask for/pay for extra??

If they haven't suggested it/aren't doing it anyway then they probably shouldn't be working on your car..

For the sake of a £25 and basically no labour difference it would be stupid not to change it.
