Cambelt snapped tonight - yay!!!!

CGGB engine in 2012 Ibiza. Pulled the spark plugs and put a scope in the holes. There are "impact" marks on the top of the pistons. I'm guessing the valves aren't well.......

Should I pull the head or just look for a replacement engine?

Thoughts?

Sorry, but I've not been in your position, these cars are generally quite robust, so either way should work though I have no idea on prices.

Out of interest, why did the cambelt fail, lack of maintenance or another unexpected issue? I've always got the belt changed at the advised 4 or 5 year period along with whatever VW Group included in the cambelt kit - and maybe more as well as a recon'd water pump every other belt change - not doing that can usually end up as your engine did.
