Hi guys booked in my Leon 1.6 tdi 2015 for Cambelt and water pump change with seat but they rang me yesterday and said we need to notify you that VAG group now recommends that you do not need to change the Cambelt and water pump as early as it was advised previously it’s good for 130k miles and 5 years thing don’t matter anymore. Which I thought was good of them to be open and honest. Has anyone else had this advice ?? Also coat is £980 ? That

#cost quoted was £980 does that seem right as older posts from last year ppl saying it cost them £4/500. That’s a big jump in a year.

I’d like to think that that was correct info as VAG changed the drive belt time/miles back in July 2023, but I thought that this only covered EA211 family of petrol engines.
You would need to have someone search the official workshop manual to see what it says wrt this belt change periodicity as the workshop manual always gave the “new” advice for the EA211 engines and it was only the official UK importers that kept to the old 5 years limit.

I don't know if I'd want to push my luck on it. It's easy for them to say it doesn't need done but are they going to pick up the tab if it fails? And a grand can't be right. Should be half that.

Yeh I I agree with u on that one mate. Got quotes from main dealer(£980) and a few VAG/German (£850-£700)specialists. Found one that’s quoted £550 they are a German specialist aswell and a reputable garage plenty of positive reviews. Even tried Halfords they quoted over £1100 the cheeky sods. Apparently it was half the price just last year. As with everything it’s doubled in price.

Strange the dealer is saying your TDI has longer change interval!
I though that change was only relating to petrol's?
