has anyone else changed a cambelt on the auq engine with auto tensioner and thought the belt was a bit tight?

What do you mean as too tight? It wants to be tight or you will be changing more than the belt next time.

i'm a mechanic and i've changed hundreds of timing belts. but i've never seen one with an automatic tensioner and it was tighter than i would set a manual one

Oh right. I did mine last week on my AUQ leon and it was tight but only the same as when i took it off.

ye i assume its ok but i didn't think of checking it before i took it off.
