The first thing youll need is an interface between your oem stereo and amp. Something like a AudioControl LC2i. Then decide which speakers your going to upgrade, ie. fronts, rears or subs. This will determine how many channels your amp will need, also the gauge of cable required to run in.

i was told that oem units don't really "like" any amplifier... i had the rns510 installed, and i changed the speakers in the front and rear doors too. i use kickx 6.2s with alu membrans. the sound is really clear, but without any amplifier, after half of the volume it starts distort... anyway i don't listen music as loud so many times,so i'm happy with my set. in my previous car i had a seriuos system with rockford punch p2, the bass was awesome, of course with a pioneer headunit and with a 4channel amplifier... but for now i think i grown up a bit :)

If you aren't going to amp your front speakers, don't change them. The OEM speakers are designed to run off little power. The xxx need lots of power and will probably sound worse running of the own unit.

Setup will be 2 way active front end (2 x 50 rms and 2 x 300 rms) and a single single in the boot that will change depending on mood, but will have 700 rms.

I've got an Alpine pha700 processor (I think that's the model) currently and may use this. This will allow me to adjust subject level, fader (might install rears for when the kids are in the car) etc.

my problem is, when i was running a streetbasser it was fine... now that was a few years ago, and i have the leon, its not the same but i cant be bothered with the hassle of fitting a double Din unit - mainly because im fussy and cant pick which one i want!

and not too sure about hooking it up to the steering wheel controles too.i should look into it really, id love a dvd / sat nav unit.

EDIT : just realised all i need is a canbus steering wheel harness (about 30 quid)
a facia plate, again another 30 quid

and then to choose a double din!

if there is more to it than that, please let me know lol.

Nope that's about it. Canbus has made it pretty simple.

If you want the CDC, get an amp.
