Noticed near my car today in Sainsbury's car park there was a weird look device on the floor.

It was a car key shaped circuit board, and soldered to it was a usb adaptor, with then a micro usb cable plugged into it the usb adaptor.

Cant see anyone stupid enough to try and break into a car in a busy car park along with cameras etc may have been there already. Just thought it was a bit strange seeing something like that in such a busy area.

I'm not sure what use that would be, given that the physical locks are not linked to the transponder chip for the immobiliser so it could be in the shape of a doughnut for all it matters.

Are you sure someone hasn't just dropped and run over their retro mp3 player/ memory stick?

I would say that sometimes doing this stuff in public is the best place as people don't think anybody would steal a car in a public car park. They would know where the camera's are so can be seen but in a hoody, no face.

and on a simular note (lifted from a paper web site)

Cases of ‘lifting’ - where the vehicle is lifted onto the back of a truck - have increased steadily since 2009, and accounted for around 12 per cent of car thefts in 2011 and 14 per cent of thefts so far in 2012.

One criminal confessed: 'I’ve lifted cars in broad daylight. Flat bed truck and a luminous vest and people think you’re a clamper. They’re lifting more for tax and insurance now, so as long as you look the part no-one cares.'
