Hi guys/girls

Ok ...... Popped out in the car ( lc ) and came to a stand still at a junction. Spluttered , coughed , and popped , banged then cut out. Started back up again and struggled to tick over. On pull off it went to go. Gave more acceleration and it kind of lost even more power, coughed and cut out. No engine management light flashing , but then the epc ( think its that come on ) . This then went off when it stalled . Manged to get it going again and limped home by riding the clutch and blipping the accelerator .
Left it on the drive for 10 mins then went to see again .
Started , but was struggling to stay going .
Car does start every time , but just doesn't want to move without cutting out and no guts to go.

Any help would be great .

Regards
John

I would suggest the coil packs or water in the relays under the dash which control fuel pump and injectors ( water runs down the wiring loom from the wiper motor plenum chamber if seal has gone and drips into the back of the relays ) Or crank position sensor or cam sensor or spilt vacuum pipe on pollution control system.

Yes it would . You can eliminate fueling by spraying easy start into the intake ........ if the engine picks up and runs smooth for 20 - 30 seconds then it is injectors or fuel supply fault . if no change occurs suspect other items mentioned such as coil packs and sensors

How expensive do you think the crank sensor job is . Thinking it sounds expensive . I'll have to see if I can borrow vag com off someone . Coil packs where changed 7-8 months ago . Doesnt feel like when the coil pack went last time nor like fuel starvation . Know it sounds stupid , but it's just the feel of the fault when it was trying to get her home .
Just hoping I haven't caused any damage limping her .

I had a very similar issue to yours the car sounded like it was suffocating and struggling for air, coughing/spluttering and trying to keep itself going before it just gives up and stalls (this is on tickover) the only way it would move was by doing what you said above, riding the clutch..

After checking absolutely everything it turned out that the electrical plug/connection to the throttle body needed a clean (not the throttle body itself) basically pull the plug out and spray it with electrical cleaner and give her a little clean plug her back in and .. fingers crossed..?

I had this one my first Leon and I changed the coil packs over and that solved it on mine

Cheers again chaps . Borrowing vagcom tomorrow to see if it pulls up any codes. If it is the coil packs , then they will be going back , as they aren't that old . I'll try the throttle body thing and plug also . Can't hurt trying and can only do it good even if its not that . I shall keep everyone posted .

Cheers
John

What I found which made me clean the throttle body sensor was the usual buzz/beep you get when leaving ignition on (what people think os the throttle body aligning) didn't sound the same it was more of a static/electrical crackle sound. So the connection must of been dodgy, hence the spluttering/lack of control of the throttle

I think ive got a vid of it, go have a listen to yours

Dont make the mistake I made though of thinking the sensor is the one at the front, next to throttle body as seen in pic -

Its actually behind the TB out of view, that's the one you want

Ok ....... I plugged vag com in today and this is what I got .

Misfire on cylinders 1 and 4 ( will check coil packs )
Air mass reading low .
And 2 that I'm more worried about .....

17743 engine forgive monitor2. Control limit exceeded p1335

17978 engine start blocked by Imobilizer p1570

Now I had a new cluster fitted about a year ago . Key all coded and working fine .

Any help or light would be great .

Car ticks over and cuts out. If I start again and keep blipping the throttle it keep running .

Air mass low = dirty MAF or filter or rag sucked into air box /leaves etc or air bypassing maff ie split or misplaced/collapsed hose onto turbo intake
I think the torque sensor is the knock sensor - a misfire will set this off and thus ecu retards the ignition and cuts fuel to protect the pistons making it worse . Try swaping coilpacks over to different cylinders and see if misfire follows the swap on vag com.
