Hi all!

basically i bought my brother a MK3 Ibiza 1.4 8V not to long ago, and there have been a cupple of little things we have had to fix/need fixing.

first things that have been fixed was the radio not turning off and killing the battery, then some buttons on the drivers handle had been pushed through and put them back in to place.

All easy and simple fixes and he is VERY happy with the car!

Now, im a perfectionist with my car, and there are a few things on his that are bugging me!

the first is the exhaust is blowing... it looks in ok condition apart from a few holes on the top side of the pipe, so im going to replace it for him.

Im after a stainless Cat back system for it to give ti a better sound and a nice longer life!
Im having trubble finding one though... dont want to pay stupid amounts and i am not to fused if its second hand ether.

any one got any ideas on where to look and what make etc?
also, if there is any difference between the 1.4 16v or higher versions?

Also, found out why it was wobbeling slightly at high speeds... the previous owner had welded a huge crack in the alloy... very scary! so thats off and we are now looking for a second hand set of alloys to fit!

am i right in saying the PCD is 100? not sure what offset is needed at the moment so if anyone who knows would like to share that would be a great help :-D

and lastly on this nice huge post...
The clutch seems very heavy... are they normally like this, or a common fault?
Or any ideas what its so heavy and what i could do to fix it?

cheers all!!
Keith

:edit:

oooh yeah!

when i was searching about the engine bay for an airbox to see what condition that filter was in i was first confused by the lack of box, but soon realized its built into the engine cover.

Something thats confusing me is that it seems to have a second opening above the exhaust manifold and is sucking hot air from around there o_O surely this cant be right!!

when i took off the engine cover to inspect the filters i noticed that the hole in the cover above the manifold also has a little spring hinge flap thingy (technical words ftw).
Can someone explain abit more on what this thing is doing and if its really is sucking in hot air as this just screams bad in my head...

long post is long...

Might be worth going custom with the exhaust, not many aftermarket ones available for the 1.4

PCD is 4x100. Offset around ET +35.

Clutch on the MK3 is pretty heavy as it is.

The valve in the air box is closed when cold (on start up) and draws warm air over the exhaust manifold to get the engine and catalyst up to temperature.

The valve is operated by a bimetalic strip which changes length when it warms up, thus opening the valve. This causes cooler air to be drawn into the engine from the air intake.

Hope that helps :)

custom can be expensive though haha

i payed just over £550 for mine on my Rover 25 (proper car ;) j/k)
ill just have to keep an eye out and get him to save his pennies if we have to! haha

and ahhh that clears things up about about the air intake!
So when cold start up it draws air from manifold to help it get up to temp not to quickly and cause damage to manifold?

then gets cold air from normal intake when warmed up?
