Hi all -
I've got a re-curring temperature sensor problem on my LC.....and I've got a mega-bucks quote from my local stealer to supply and fit a new one.

I've got a VAGCOM cable so resetting the fault code isn't a problem.....i just haven't got a clue how to swap the sensor out myself, or if there's anything I can do to fix the current sensor.

Any ideas???!!!

It's a doddle, takes about ten minutes. I'll find some guides for you.

You need to order the temp sensor, o ring and clip - try Euro Car Parts, about £25.

On a COLD car, find the sensor, pull the wire connector off, pull the clip off, pull the old sensor out and fit the new one.

It is So So easy to do.

Disconnect sensor
Remove mental C clip which holds sensor in place
Jiggle and gently twist the sensor until it becomes free
Pull the sensor out and remove the rubber O ring (the faster you do this the less coolant you will lose).
Insert new sensor with new rubber seal
Insert C clip
Attach lead
Move to expansion tank and top up coolant

I know i don't need to say this but, ONLY DO THIS ON A COLD ENGINE. :p

All in all a 5 minute job.

Which car are you driving.

Then order another one for when that one fails the week after ;) :D

Changed mine in November and it SEEMS to be ok, but i did get two sensor's for the price of one due to a clueless saturday assistant :D

Friend of mine forgot to leave the engine a while to cool down and removed the sensor on his Golf, 30 minutes after a long run. You guessed it badly burnt hands and was unable to drive for a couple of weeks. On the plus side he did save money on petrol.

Mine's a 1.8 20VT AUQ engine, sounds good though- a big saving on the stealers.

Has anyone got the part numbers from ECP??

Ooooo Yes, free stuff is allways good. :D

I think i'm correct in thinking that all new electrical items carry 12 warranty as standard. WRT engine sensors, as long as they have been installed as per the manufactures instructions then there shouldn't be a problem.

If they fail inside of the warrenty period, how do you prove that the component was installed correctly.

I bet you were well chuffed about that! Any warranty on parts?

Didn't you know I hold the Cupranet record for these? 3 on my first Cupra and 5 on the R  all under warranty of course

if you remove the engine cover, then the inlet manifold trim (the other black plastic bit) you will have access to the pipe which is on the right handside of the engine block. Look for the top of the sensor which will be the same as the new one you have, but the one fitted will probably be black and yours will be green.
