Changing Front Brakes

Hello All,
I've just attempted to change my front brake pads and ran into a problem:
Got the wheel off and removed the plastic bungs to get at the bolts to remove the caliper but, they are an alan key socket type.
I couldnt fit a 6mm or an 8mm alan key into the socket.
Does anyone know if it is a 7mm? This seems a strange size to me.

Any help appreciated. I'm trying to get them done before my 10 day MOT retest window runs out on saturday.
