Checking intercooler pipes for leaks

Or you can wipe all of the pipes clean with a cloth / paper, then drive for a coupla days, then check the pipes for any oily smears.
i prefer to stick the neighbours cat in the intercooler , floor the throttle and see where the fluff comes out

Yeh if the neighbours cat doesnt leave my bin bags alone shes in FMIC. Otherwise a visual inspection is the way
but if I just blip the throttle the turbo will not be spooling enough to pressurize the air,,, if I rev the car I won't be able to listen for whistles,,,
[this is assuming I got the meaning of the verb 'to blip' right,,, sorry, english ain't my first language]

the tdi produces boost all the time unlike the 20vt you can first check the push fit connectors around the back of the engine then get someone to hold the revs at about 2k turbo will be boosting then and if its leaking it will whistle more than normal

there are specail conections that have wire clips to hold them in place different to hose clamps like you see around most of the engine bay, the pipes have a metal end that fits into the other pipe its joined to
I guess you mean the clips that are at every IC pipe connection?
on the mk3 the IC pipes don't have metal ends,,,

no these connectoins are more around the back of the engine and going into the egr but mk3 might be different from the mk4

Another way of checking for leaks to to use washing up liquid around the joints. Bubbles appear if a leak is there.

these cars are drive by wire so no cable in the engine,,, sorry,,,
