Hi,

Am new to this site and have never done any chipping. I have a Seat Ibiza 1.9tdi se (2003 model) and thinking of getting a chip such as this item on ebay: 260101368948.

Anyone done any chipping before? If so any comments, suggestions or advice?

Any info would be much appreciated!!

Cheers,

Max

I'd get a remap if I were you - anything that costs £30 is not going to be good for your engine - these tuning boxes are just a resistor network that make the engine overfuel.

A remap will set you back £350-£500, but you get what you pay for

Cheers for the feedback Leigh!!

Must admit it does sound too good to be true... even if they do say that the additional fuel pumpage is within acceptable boundaries.

What sort of garages do remapping... is it a case of searching for mod centres or specialists in local area?

How does remapping affect things like 1nsurance and warranty?

check out the sponsors section on the main forum, most of them remap fella.
insurance is a gray area to owners, some discose, some dont, if you are over 21/22 then contact greenlight insurance, mention seatcupra.net and ask them for a quote, they are doing us a discount and remaps are easily taken care of.

what area do you live in?

check the "sponsored links" section on the home page.

welcome to the site by the way! :D

Ps. as all newbies are told ( as i was too  ), the SEARCH function found at the top of every page is everybody's friend! ;)

Many thanks for the pointers guys! It's funny you mention the "Search" function air121005... i was trying to find it earlier but couldn't, even tho it appears to be in the most obvious place

I blame it on too many computer screens and tiredness. Rest assured, moving forward i will be using it.

To answer your question tho, am currently residing in Brighton but have only been here since December. Will probably be moving in about 3 months up to Derby. I'll probs have to save up a load before i get any remapping done.... its gunna be more than the £30 i was thinking of :D

Anyways keep it real!! [B)]

fancy coming to look at a load of seats and vag cars modifyed and remapped similar to what you want for your car click on the linky in my signature VVVVVV:) will be a convoy to b.ton too :)

My seat is just a week old, not even, 130 tdi fr. Who runs the best chip in terms of power and torque aswell as keeping fuel economy in the high figures. I think I will get all work done through a company called ATMR who do a super tuning kit. Running a superchips remap, BMc INDUCTION, Massive custom intercooler and some other shizit. Also has anyone changed cluthces after upgrade and if so what were the effects? Thanks Lewis

Be careful - a chip and a map are two completely different things - not helped by the fact that there's a tuning company that do remaps caused superchips!!

I'd advise running a couple of searches through the mk4 forum on 'remap' - you should dredge up a huge amount of info on different maps people have had - you can decide for yourself what's best for you then - every company's map is different!

Whats the problem with superchips. They use a guy called miguel for some maps I believe. He's portuguese and I've seen some dyno results of his maps and their awesome.

I have been told to get custom made components such as intercoolers etc and have them fitted and a remap done by revo @ big boys. Basically I want about 180 Bhp at least. What would everyone suggest to acheive this on an ibiza fr 130 pd?

Also I'm curious about these maps which can be undetectably switched on and off.
thanks Lewis:confused:

180 from a FR TDi will be pretty hard to achieve but not impossible! you will need FMIC, Full Exhaust and a custom remap! that should bring you to around 180 but if you want anymore a bigger turbo is required!

OR.....

FMIC
Mufflerectomy
Cupra air intake
Green panel filter
Custom code stage 1

gave me 161bhp at the wheels, 301 lb/ft of torque, which is past the 180bhp flywheel figure.

But remember, with the extra power you will want better brakes, [312mm Audi TT brakes] and decent suspension, so id budget for these aswell.
