'Chugging' engine

Hey guys, been reading the forum on and off but figured about time I registered :).

Had my Seat since 2011 and its had so much work done to it (but then when you love the car), but recently the local garage and I seem stumped.

The engine ticks over for a few seconds then chugs when idle or under acceleration.
The garage has had it for three weeks and tried everything (there wasn't even a warning light on it), they've replaced the throttle body, cam sensor, traced the electrical wires, gaskets, pretty much anything they can think of!

Figured it was worth asking if anyone on here has had this issue? We've sort of managed to fix it by disconnecting the cam shaft sensor (and causing a warning light), soon as its off it runs like a dream, once its reconnected its back to chugging (the sensor has been replaced twice and their pretty certain the part itself is fine too).

Thanks in advance :).

Hello and welcome to this forum!

Just one thing, I think that you should let us know exactly which engine type/version/size/fuel is fitted into that car. The version will be a three letter code like B?? and that will be on the build sheet in the spare wheel well side and on the front (right hand side of car) cover of the engine, ta. Oh, and mileage and where you buy your fuel.
