You MUST wash throughly before claying as you will just drag the dirt across the car .
I pressure wash off, then wash with mitt, then use an all purpose cleaner to remove old wax and sealants then clay.

As above, I always give the car a wash before and after claying then dry before applying polish/wax.

Once you dry, it's great feeling the paintwork - very smooth and rewarding.

I found that this was really good

Wash the car thoroughly with the 2 bucket method , rinse the car off , leave it wet then clay , no need to use a lubricant as long as you wet the panel you are claying , re wash the car to remove the clay residue and polish if required and wax , use apc on stubborn fly splats or bird crap.

Not all clay can use water. Some need a lubricant. I use billt hamber clay which is one of the few that do use water as lubricant. Using the wrong stuff can marr the paint

I have got some BMW clay (it was free) and it says to use glass cleaner with it, thanks for all your tips :)
Will give it ago when we see some sun

iron x will not do the same job as clay! its used to remove contamination like tree sap or iron fallout or brake dust! The clay removes the contamination that makes the paint feel rough but can not be seen after washing.

I would also wash the car before and after claying! The sponge glides over the paint so easily on the second wash :D and also even if the clay can use water as a lubricant i would use another lubricant as well so as to not damage the paintwork!

That's news to me pal, I have tried about 6 clay bars and always use water if I don't have a lubricant about and gives the same results never had any Issues with marring at all only very good results.

Do you NEED to de-tar (tardis or similar) and iron x before claying? (black car)

No you don't need to , a clay bar will remove tar but smaller spots , you can use a tar remover if you have a lot of tar saves the clay bar :)
Iron x was made for alloy wheels in specific , to remove ferrous contamination from wheels and body work it's a separate thing altogether than claying

My order goes

Rinse off , ( snow foam ideally )
Wash. ( ph neatural shampoo)
Step 1 paint cleanser
Step2 clay with quick detail as a lube
Step 3 pre wax polish ( or normal polish )
Wax
Quick detail
Leave 24 hours quick detail and re wax again

swaying motion

does anyone find when driving motorway speeds and there is a windy day the car seems to be blown like a swaying movement as if it was a lorry .
just wondering

If the super guard is not doing its job them yea you can mate , you would first use a cleanser like high def cleanser or paint cleanser to remove it ,
Claying does not need to be applied in every wash though

how can you tell if its still doing its job and does it not have a renewing as a shell life date .
would it not be better to have a superguard/diamond bright re applied after claying,to give it a good pretection instead of claying every so often.
