Hi guys
I can already hear you lot saying cv joints And me that is my guess too. However.. My garage says it's the steering rack!!!!
Anyone had that before? Don't want to fork out over £400 to get it done if it's not that! Garage says whole thing needs to be replaced. It only seems to make noise at low speeds and mainly when turning right!
They say it does need a cv boot too.
Anyone got a secondhand rack kicking around they want to sell me or a pair of cv joints and driveshafts?
All help welcome. It's doing my head in. I would swear it's a cv...
Many thanks
Ak

If you stand the car and pull the track rod and wheel in and out you should see if there is play in the rack
Also I have the LCR front conversion of hubs, rack, subframe, wishbones and arb if interested and a multitude of driveshafts

Hi ronin how's it going mate.
I haven't been on for a while ! Been busy.
When you say pull the wheel do you mean steering wheel or front wheels?
Might be interested in the conversion for the yellow one but keeping the blue one fairly standard. Pm me about price shipped to me at sp13tq mate for left and right driveshaft and cv joints bud and if you come accross a rack let me know. Also need an exhaust for it now too. Standard or stainless.
Cheers guys!

Funnily enough i've heard this one used at a garage before... shame the lady he told this too husband was an ex mechanic :D

With the price of standard, your better of replacing with a stainless mate.

That exactly my thoughts Ricky!
I reckon il do both cvs and track rod ends Etc and see how it goes!
And yea the price of a standard back section of the exhaust. Only place to get it is the stealers and it is.... £225!!! Now that is pricey!
Could get a custom janspeed built for £250 and it really handy they are in salisbury too!

And Ronin... Thanks for the pm mate. Top work again

Alright buddy, I don't know a whole bunch about cars (bit car illiterate to be honest) but when I got my Leon I had the same. Sudden popping sound and it'd pull off to the right or left, and on my old Ford Escort it'd clunk on full lock to the right. For me it turned out to be bushes/ball joints (all buggered). Got two new front wishbones with all of the bushes fitted and drop links for 40 quid on eBay. My mate is a mechanic and tested the bushes pretty simply by turning the wheels on full lock to get access at the suspension, and wedging a crow bar under the bushes - when wiggling it around you can see if there are cracks in the bushes and if there is too much play. Hope this helps, and hope that's all it is!

I would defo get a second opinion before i spend that much money on anything mate! Slightly of topic but my clutch hit the floor a few months ago, garage told me i needed a new slave cylinder, and while the gearbox was open i should fit a new clutch too ect, turned out to be a small rubber o ring and clip was all i needed on the outside where the slave sticks out of the box, price went from £420+vat to £3. Ive not been a member long here but its the first time anyone has mentioned a steering rack!
