Clunking from front end?

Anyone had this? Car is '07 Leon 2.0 TDi DSG Stylance. When pulling away I get 2 clunks from the front end in quick succession, if you let off the gas quickly it clunks again? It also clunks when going over rough ground too.

I had it looked at and Autohaus said it was the offside shock and/or top bearing, these were replaced but it's still doing it. Going back in on Friday.

Any idea?

Worn bushes maybe? Droplinks?

They said they checked everything over and didn't find anything worn with excessive movement.

Maybe movement in the engine/gearbox mounts?

Also there is a common clunk from the subframe but that's usually only when going round corners

I thought about the subframe too. I have the ECS bolts and spacers so will get them fitted and see if that helps.

I replaced the subframe bolts this morning but it's still doing it, so it wasn't that. It's going in to Autohaus tomorrow for another look.

That thread is about a noise from the rear. Front strut and top bearing/mount have already been replaced and it's still doing it. They reckon the clunk may be the dual mass flywheel when you apply power to it on takeoff it clunks. Looking at just under £800 to supply and fit a new one.

sounds like an expensive maybe. any play in the driveshafts / CV joints?

No idea, I'm hoping it's not an expensive fix because I'm about to put the car up for sale!

I'll take a guess at gearbox mount. As I had a similar thing a few years ago

Im going to say exhaust as I had this issue and when I had the dpf sorted it stopped doing it , i'd forgot about the noise till the missus mentioned it and realised it had stopped doing it .

It was the flywheel. They had the car for 4 days and checked everything. Fitted a new flywheel and all of the clunking and rattling is gone. £714 bill for the supply and fitting of a new OE dual-mass flywheel.

Think I may have the same problem - clunks seem most noticeable when pulling away from stationary, usually when I take foot off throttle/ press the clutch.

How many miles has your car done robdon? My 57 has covered 64k so seems early for a flywheel failure, if that's my problem...

My 07 car has 91k on it. Dual mass flywheels going are quite common on most diesels, not just SEATs.

Think I'll be waiting for payday and keeping my fingers crossed for a less expensive fault!

I was the same, had a few minor parts replaced but it didn't sort it, had to bite the bullet and get the flywheel done as it just gets worse the longer you leave it.

I know your dilemma very well. Sometimes it's a case of "better the devil you know than the one you don't". Could be anything next due to age and mileage, shocks, clutch, engine component, radiator. Those are just some of the issues that I've had with cars that never even had that many miles on the clock. My current car was 1 year old with 19k miles when I bought it and never had any issues few years until the ABS pump died. Shortly after that the rear door lock module was faulty. Cost of both was around £800. I decided to keep the car anyway and so far I've had no more issues. It's a gamble.
