Just curious as to what the clunking noise I have on my cupra r.
It happens when the car has come to a complete halt, then when I set off, there is a clunking coming from the front area and to describe the noise, its like 5 little clunks and then the noise goes away. I thought it might be some sort of abs self test or something ?
Is it common or could this be my first visit to the dealers.

Thanks.

My 07 cupra doesn't do this, or at least iv not noticed it.
My rx8 used to do an abs test but that was only once the first time u set off after turning the engine on.

Is it just a noise or can you feel it through the pedal, steering wheel etc?

It's just a noise, no vibration or anything, the car is smooth as silk to drive. It's done this noise since day 1, so I never really took any notice of it.
I'm wondering if it's just the take up of drive ? Strange.

My 57' plate makes a similar noise, more noticable when reversing then stopping then going forward again. I've had it checked, all seems ok. I read somewhere that the callipers are "floating" and move slightly, but I'm probably wrong.

Yep, that's a better description of the same senario that I get for the noise to come along.
I'm now begining to wonder wether it's something more to do with the hill start assyst, although i'm not always hill starting.

It does sound like the hill start function which is supposed to hold on the breaks for uptown a couple of seconds. My 59 plate choral does not do it but I have not got the hill hold feature

There's no light on the dash for hill hold assist. My Leon has it and it works well for "proper" hill starts but won't activate for slight inclines, so you can still roll back a bit if you're not careful. You can feel it activate in the brake pedal - very similar to an electronic hand brake in an Audi or similar.
