Ive just replaced the cluctch cable on my cousins car. Suprising easy job. It honestly took no longer than 20-30mins.
Only thing is that the clucth cable that came off is different to the one that i fitted. I think the one that snapped was a manual adjusting one where the one i fitted is self adjusting.
Will this be a problem? The clutch is working and car seems fine, just a bit of play with the clutch pedal.

Ive actually found the manual one is smoother and lasts longer. On my mk2 golf the manual one was much nicer than the adjustabe one.

i was going to stick a new cable on mine, try and make it feel lighter and smoother.. is a 96 valver likely to be manual or self adjusting or what not.. never considered there would be different variations before this thread lol

I didn't think there would be different variations on the cable either, but there you go lol. Got a mechanic to look at it and he said its fine. I still cant believe how easy it was. Just the fact there were no little niggles along the way.

either feel fine to start with. the problem comes when rust gets into the self adjust mechanis and slows it up causing heavy and weird feeling clutch pedal as far as I know

Yes mate. much better. Was in traffic yesterday and it was a pleasure to drive.

I will second that. Got my clutch cable changed last thursday n its like driving a totally different car from the car that i dropped off on wednesday!! Cable was meant to be getting changed on the wednesday but they didnt have time!!

It is so much lighter than it was with the new cable, i just hope that helps my drilled and bolted pedal box stay together until im finished with the car!!
