Hi there,

in my previous post I had a new clutch fitted. it is a sachs performance clutch and sachs smf. I had issues with it smelling on hill starts and the biting point being high and wonder if this was normal. I have got use to the biting point but the burning smell still persists after nearly 500 miles, I have done loads of town driving in the hope of bedding the clutch in.

now this morning I went for a drive, driving along in 4th gear at about 2000 -2500 rpm the car made a loud grinding type noisy and slowed itself down twice over the space of 5 seconds roughly. it didn't pull left or right and no warning light came on, don't think it is a cv or bearing because the car stayed on line and didnt pull at all.

the noise defo came from front passenger side so I suspect the clutch,

is it possible that the friction plate is falling apart and it some how jammed something.
all gears still select normal and it aint done it since.

is it possible to put this type of clutch in back to front.

need help people, had my 10mth old little girl in the back and the car slowing like it did with no warning is not good. wont be taking her out till this gets sorted one way or another.

Where did the clutch kit come from.? If you say techni-clutch im gonna scream. I also diagree that a clutch needs bedding in. I spanked mine from the beginning and never had any burning smells.

Na not from techniclutch. I know about those cowboys. The garage who done it supplied it. I trust the garage completely so I don't think there is anything sinister happening I am just concerned it may be installed wrong. Or more like it is a duff clutch plate.

Don't know mate. Anything is possible. They are vag specialist and the main guy was a seat master technician. Do you know if it is normal for a sachs kit to smell when new. I was hoping someone had the same set up and could tell me how there's behaved. All your answers mate will be repeated to the garage when I get hold of them. Thanks for your help friend

That is what I though. Defo think something is badly wrong. Maybe the wrong clutch was sent and the guys didn't realise. Cost me a lot of money and it is burning itself and possible chewing its self to bits.

Yeah came with the kit. I did find it strange that the biting point was so high but got use to it. What was your mate likes after you did his?

Ive fitted a smf kit to my lcr aswell mate, although it was a valeo. The biting point on mine, my mates and the bora I did last week is near the floor. Pretty much moves as soon as you raise the pedal.

Lol. I should of got you to fit mine. Mine moves in the last inch and half. The more we talk the more I think it is the wrong clutch or a duff one. Do you think it could be braking apart and it jammed slightly and that is why the car slowed. I think the garage needs to take it apart to look.

I have had a sachs paddle plate mated with a Luk dual mass the biting point on mine is high and a bugger on hill starts its basically on or off. But it gets the power down . It certainly is not a car to drive around town in stop start traffic all year. but on the open road feels great.

That's interesting. I swear the garage said it was a sachs smf. My clutch isn't a paddle clutch. I had one once in a rs turbo fiesta. Was like a switch, either on or off. Mine is a performance clutch plate.

Yeah I know mate. Can't get hold of garage at mo because of the Xmas break. Will be interesting to see what exactly the problem is. Pain in the a** at moment cus I don't want to drive it with my little girl in the back.

I'd probably get that double checked, I've heard there a slight issue with mating a sachs and luk when I was researching replacements the other day, will try dig out the thread. It's on here somewhere
