Hi all.I have a Leon fr mk1 1.8t.an the clutch has started to slip. An the peddle is quite hard. So I ring the deals for a clutch an they said u will need to duy a dualmass aswell. As I can't afford it. can I put a normal flywheel on an do away with dualmass. Just seeing if anyone has do it befor.cheers

Unless I'm very much mistaken, I thought a standard flywheel costs roughly the same as a dual mass? Or are you thinking of a standard flywheel from a different car?

If costs are a major factor, I do wonder whether replacing the flywheel is absolutely necessary. The might say replace it because the amount of labour is the same, but to keep the costs as low as possible you might get away with just replacing the friction material? It almost sounds like the typical dealer response to replace everything as a set, whereas a more knowledgeable VW specialise might know better.

Although it might cost you more further down the line because you'll be back in there to replace the rest of it at some point.

Depending on the mileage and what type of driving the car has experienced, you may not need a new flywheel just the clutch

if you can hang on a week i will have a dual mass flywheel you can buy cheap, i did my clutch a couple of month ago and changed everything but the flywheel as mine was in good nick, depends whether you wanna take the chance

Cheers sound mate.how much was the clutch an dualmass flywheel.an him much do u want for it.

i got a tt quattro clutch from tps for £90 with my discount, but i left the flywheel alone as A) i didnt have the extra cash available and B) there was no visable problems with it, a little side to side play but thats normal. On top of the £90 i replaced the master cylinder £40, slave cylinder £40 and the bleed valve £20, plus about £180 fitting so £370 ish! Iv just bought a full engine to be collected hopefully next week, which has a clutch/flywheel set up with it from an 03 audi tt, you will have to check this is compatible with your car as i have just noticed your in an FR? diesel? but if it is compatible i will sort you it out on a very pocket friendly basis

AUQ is perfect mate as the tt engine is AUQ like mine so all will fit, iv only bought the engine to rip all the hoses off, im beaking the rest just want some spares off it, the clutch and flywheel are lying on the pallet with the engine ready to go. Dual mass are a pain in the arse fella, the vr6/solid conversion is the perfect answer but only for 5 speed ibiza boxes which is a shame for us lads, its there if you want it mate, when i pick it up im gonna break it an advertise spares on here firstly and anything left will be getting ebayed, but the clutch/flywheel will only be £100 plus post to yourself and other lads off SCN, itl be going up when placed on ebay

i cant remember off the top of my head, but when i got one fitted on my old focus last year i made sure it wasnt any reconditioned crap!! They do alot off hi power scoobys, skylines pulsars etc and in leeds so not a massive distance from wezy0. Im sure if you rang and asked they be able to give more acurate details.

thats normally the case fella, iv got all sorts i wanna do but everytime i go to spend money on mods the car needs something for maintenance, joys of performance motoring! hope you get sorted mate, give me a shout if you want that gear

wow my Cupra had done 147k on itsoriginal clutch when i sold it. Europarts do LUK clutches fro a reasonable cost. I have just pressure bled the clutch on my LCR and it made a world of difference, try this first, only cost 8 quid in fluid, worth a go mate. JVT

My second LC and this ones dual mass is on the way out, no clutch slip at all, the problem is on cold morning its difficult to get the car into gear and the clutch is very heavy with the bie almost at the bulkhead.

I need to get it done before it causes any damge to the pedal as they are a frigle area of these cars, having done that it should be good for another 100k miles.

I am have Sachs parts fitted as I have heard from two sources that the LUk are not as good and they have seen failures, going to change the slave cylinder at the same time, and may as well do the gearbox oil too!

All in from my friendly local VW specialist near on £700!!!!

Ah well if it makes it drivable again it can only be a good thing
