Im thinking of getting a cobra non-resonated cat back for my leon cupra
And was wondering if it will pass most noise tests on uk tracks

My turbo back non res cobra passed the noise limits at Brands Hatch a couple of weeks ago so you should be fine

This is my thread - if you used the search bar.... ;p

Hi Guys,

This week I fitted my 3" turbo back, decat non res COBRA exhaust system. It came delivered to work for £610 all in. Could not wait to fit it!

The exhaust came in 3 bits, down pipe and decat, centre section and back box.

Unfortunately I was not supplied with the fitting kit I should have been supplied with - so I contacted Cobra and they sent out a gasket and bolt kit. I jacked the car up on axle stands and ramps and looked underneath to start my work. I knew that the standard system is in 2 pieces which means cutting off the old system. You can do this with a hacksaw - I used a angle grinder!

The middle section you can unbolt - but my bolts where so bad I had to grind them down then punch them out.

I started from the back to the front incase anything happened I could still drive the car. This is a complete ball-ache by the way and exceptionally hard on axle stands/ramps. I had to prop the car higher then pictured and even then it was very hard to manoeuvre the middle section over the rear axle to meet the back box. Eventually got this done by (hitting with a hammer) the hook that is on the rear middle section of the exhaust in order to bend it slightly so I could get it through. Once that was done, bent it back job done!

Next bit was the turbo back, again exceptionally difficult to get too open the bonnet to get the light in! I was fortunate I had 2 other people with me (1 my brother and the other my mate who is a mechanic for Regal Autosport) so together we managed to do it and fit it.

If you do not have the correct tools I would strongly suggest you get it fitted by a garage.

I actually wish now that I had gone for the resonated system, so much so that I will be getting a silencer welded in by my local exhaust specialist because it is too loud for me. (for £30 for a resonated system from Cobra, I really wish I had done it!)

Here are a couple of before and after videos!

Inside the car: (please note - that at this point I did have the standard exhaust system on the rear seats, so the massive *bang* that you hear several times is the standard system banging on the rear seats) Also - the music was off and the windows were up.

No but there are videos for you to see under full boost and normal driving. This is the full 3" turbo back, decat, non res. I spoke to cobra and they said that it's fine for track use. It's quieter then most full systems Iv seen on the track.

^^^Does the exhaust drone much with the non-Res? been looking at this system a lot :D Just need a decent video of a Resonated system to compare it to.

Tbh for the £30 to change it to a resonated system I wish I had bought a resonated one! Of you buy a resonated system and decide that it's too quiet - let me know and I'll swap out my centre pipe for your centre pipe!

It's not too droney but when your cruising at 30-40mph in 6th gear to accelerate up a bit say to 45/50mph it's a loud low drone. Like my old twin Vibe subs use to do!

Watch the video I made inside the car whilst driving. That might help?

You can by "muffler bungs" they reduce the db by 5-10db and they just sit in the muffler - perfect for trackdays! My mate in his 350bhp Mr2 uses one.

Yeah watched it couple times now lol. Like the note it gives off but not too sure if its too loud for me. Will see nearer the time.

They affect performance quite badly i had one on my gtr and it felt like i only had half the power be interested how youre mate gets on in his mr2

Sounds a lot like mine (milltek non-res) but louder.

I didn't realise how quiet they were standard to be honest! Always thought mine was only a bit louder than standard! Er......

I'm not being funny, maybe just me? Maybe I'm just used to noises ebay cat backs but my
Non res cobra is really quiet so quiet I'm considering ringing and asking wether they got
Mixed up and ordered in a resonated. Then again I've only had it on a couple days and supposedly take a few hundred miles to soot up.
