What are your opinions on the cobra systems?

I'm thinking of getting a 3" down pipe high flow cat or decat and a resonated cobra cat back with oval tip with no baffle

Think il get resonated system as don't want it to loud

Anyone have one? Opinions please

Ok, i wrote an extensive essay on the exhaust as it took me years to invest in one as i never wanted to ruin the car.

Like you i ordered the 3" turbo back system with sports cat, non resonated, non baffled system. So let me tell you here and now, this is a fantastic system, truly. At first it was tinny and decat loud on low speed manoeuvering and pull away. At first i thought it may get boomy on motorway's or whatever but it never really does.

After 600-800 miles the sound completely changed. It actually got quieter around town, but on boost the thing howls, its intoxicating and addictive. The Leon is blessed with good sound deadening so inside its loud (on boost) but not intrusive. Open ALL the windows up and boot it and the world can hear you.....pedestrians that are walking miles up ahead all look back, and my mate has commented he has heard me from a few streets away (i can second this as when my tuner drove my car after doing some logs, i could hear him absolutely 100s of yards away).

To summarise, the good:

1. Good value for money.
2. Very subtle but noisy when YOU want it to.
3. lovely burble on overun in most gears mainly 1st.
4. Gave lots more power and torque (after mapping).
5. Looks standard.
6. Welds etc are great.
7. Massive kick back of exhaust or pops when driven in anger.

The little or few problems i had.

1. The exhaust sits low to rear beam (great on standard car height, not on very low cars).
2. Doesnt come with the gaskets.
3. Exhaust goes yellow on the tip quickly, but after the first few cleans it takes a while to come back.
4. Exhaust tip rattle on the screw in the bumper above the tip. Remove before fitting.

Thanks for the comments people... I think I'm gonna go for the resonated version as I sometimes have my little ones in the car(2 years old) so don't want any drone when driving normally

Also I have a Cupra not the R tho, looked on cobra's website and they don't do a decat/sports cat or anything listed for the Cupra, only the Cupra r

Under the cupra section, Just shows resonated cat back or a non-resonated cat back

So might have to get the 3" down pipe and sports/decat somewhere else lol

Well if you have a Cupra then it will be a 2.5 cat back anyway, which will be MILES quieter than a 3" straight away.

Not kidding mate, my 3" non res, non baffled catback is silent as a mouse when driving around town. Just like standard.

As i said the Leon has great sound deadening too.

So no point going for 3"?

Just thought 3" would be better incase I wanted to go for a gt28rs in future thought 2.5" may restrict it lol

Edit: 3" down pipe I mean not cat back

If you ate going 3" downpipe and 2.5" cat back you will need a reducer. I have a non res catback and it isn't 3" but sounds great on my LCR

I have the resonated cat back with non baffle oval with the 3" dp/de-cat! Tbh it's fine just driving it normal (I have I 5year old) but sounds awesome on boost! I think the cobra is a really nice exhaust, you won't be dissapointed ;)
