Coming home lights question

I haven't found anything via the search but I apologise if I missed something.

This evening I left my lights on whilst I went into the house and proceeded to lock the car doors (just in case) and to my surprise when I returned to the car all the lights had switched off! I unlocked, opened the door, put the key in and then the lights came back on. They were left in the fully on position.

I've had the car less than a week, but I was under the impression that you needed the auto lights feature for this to work, which my car doesn't have. If I can use this without worrying about the battery in the morning then that would be great as the parking at the rear of my house is unlit, so would make things a little easier!

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Car in question is a 56 Leon FR.

No, it's standard across the Leon range. The "auto" lights feature is different, that is where the lights come on automatically based upon how dark it is (ie a sensor). Coming home lights are just on a timer. It can be enabled and disabled using VCDS.

Legend. Couldn't have asked for a more simple explanation!

Not a problem. Remember though that it only works on dipped beam - if you leave just your sidelights on then they will stay on. Or if you put your indicator on then whichever side will stay lit (parking light).

I think with a bit of VCDS magic, you can turn on leaving home lights but without the rain/light sensors, they'll only work if you leave you main beam on in the same way as the scenario as above. Could be wrong though?

I have done this ever since i have had my 08 K1, also the previous owner told me he leaves them on also. I like the feature but would like them to come on when i unlock the car. Is that possible through VCDS?

As said, VCDS is your friend for doing this. There is a thread all about it in the MK2 section with ebay links for buying a fake cable and downloading the software. Should cost about £25-30, then you can enable loads of stuff like the leaving home lights, remote windows, hazard flash with ABS activation, Alarm arm and disarm bleep and loads more. Also you can read and reset faults as well as diagnosing problems and running logs.

Or you could pay hundreds for the registered VCDS or hundreds to the stealers for fixing easy faults.

I have to flash my main beam once to activate mine. Maybe yours is the same.

Post a request in the vag-com help section on here, stating where you are etc. Someone may live near you who is willing to meet up and sort it if needed.

I'm also struggling to understand this, i have a 2010 leon, auto lights and xenons. i've set my coming home and leaving home to 30s. but not sure what this does?

I've left my lights on auto, and as soon as i take my key out, all the lights go off.... i thought dip beam was supposed to stay on?

also, whats leaving one do?
