Was looking to change discs and pads on my 08 Leon FR 170 and am totally lost on what size they are.
It seems as if many manufacturers list them as different sizes.

The back is a solid disc which could either be 255 or 286

The front is a vented one either 288 or 312.

Plesae could anyone who has replaced these point me the right direction.

312 front discs and probably 255 rear ones (only some earlier FR TDI cars have 286 rear discs as TFSI model).

I had my brakes done last week and the fronts were 312mm.
I was told if your car came with 17s then you had 288mm discs and if it came with 18s it was the 312mm. (not sure how true this is)

Doubt it very much. FR gets 312mm up front whatever the wheel size.

Hi i can help you out with the sizing if you give me your reg/chassis i work for seat!!

Hi John007

front 312x25 (5/112) vented
Rear 255x10 (5/112) solid

Hello person who works at Seat. Would you be able to fimd out when the rears were changed from 286 to 255 on the FR TDI, so i can update my thread.

Thanks G2 for checking, Funny why some come with 286 and others with 255 on the rears.

Will now have to look for an upgrade.

Was recomended green stuff pads, however heard mixed reviews on these.

Hello DanGB

im not sure, you can't look parts up by model,
when you input vehicle data (chassis number) i can find the relevent pr codes specific to that car,
The code for 286x12 is 1kz if that helps? these codes should be in all service books on the data sticker.

Yes green stuff pads would be a wise choice but with it being a low braking percentage than the front im not sure if it worth the extra £££ it depends on the purpose of your upgarde.
On previous cars i have owned i have allways up graded the rear aswell as the front but could really notice the difference as i dont use my cars on the track.

Woah definately not green stuff. Green stuff is intended for smaller cars, and lesser braking weight.

If you HAVE to go with EBC, go for Red stuff's

I have just fitted red stuff to my car as I was advised green stuff only work well on cars with less then 200bhp. My fr is running around 220bhp and ebc advice them for 200bhp+

My car is running 200 brake so want it to stop when needed.

Not tied to any prefence of brand, just want something that is good.

Would not go for red stuff pads as was told that they take a few presses of the pedal to get them upto temperature.

I do not track my car but do drive it spiritedly,

Did find some mtec discs grooved and drilled with mintex pads on ebay for £179 the full set.

Just dubious buying such an important thing like this off ebay though.

I was in the same position as yourself not sure what get.
I had ebc grooved & drilled discs with red stuff pads on my scooby which they worked brilliantly.
I have to say I was a little concerned how well they would work on the leon but so far they seem pretty good and they still arnt fully run in yet.
