Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone can point me in a direction.

Was just driving on the motorway and red warning light has come on warning about a coolant system fault.

Have been checking, I can see a little fluid towards the front bottom of the engine bay, the coolant level is the same as it has been for a while.

Driving oil temp is around 103-105 and coolant temp is 90.

Just wondering if there are any other coolant systems in the car other than the main radiator.

Cars a 67plate 2.0 cupra 300.

Just thought I'd see if u can get any info before it put it into the garage.

Conveniently happed just out of its warranty period too.

Thanks in advance.

Without sounding ignorant mate was it defo a coolant warning or low washer fluid. You usually only get a warning with high temp or low fluid and as you say the expansion tank and temp is ok.

No probs mate.
Defo not the low washer.
That shows up an orange warning.
Washer fluid full anyway.

Only other thing I’d consider is faulty sensor or maybe an air lock causing something. But again the latter would possibly be indicated by cold air via the vents. Water pump noises ?? I’m sure there are many more cleverer peeps on here that can help.

So quick update.

Topped the coolant up yesterday and the warning went off.

Have come out this morning to a puddle on the floor. can see it dripping from below the car. About central to the engine cover.

I’m guessing thermostat housing. Common fault on this engine and it let go when I had my Golf R as it did on many other Golf Rs. Normal practice is to change the water pump at the same time. Find a good specialist to investigate as I have little faith in SEAT and VW dealerships. Mine cost nearly a grand to do but you might find somewhere cheaper. Where are you based?

Hey.

Thanks for the message.
I believe that seat have already changed a thermostat housing a few months ago at the servicing.

They said it was a manufacturing fault and that it had burnt through and melted.

Spoke to them earlier about this leak possibly being as a result of the work they had carried out.

I think I must have offended him, he just said well it will have to come back and be investigated cos it might be something else and have me the hours rate of a princely £114.

……hence why I use a specialist and not a main dealer because their labour rates are extortionate. Can’t see them doing a thermostat housing on a service because it’s a big job, hence the cost of mine being nearly a grand.

Just had a garage look at the water leak.

Apparently it's coming from between the water pump and cooling regulator.

Seat replaced the thermostat housing under warranty in 2020. If the thermostat housing had to be replaced would this have been removed?

The mechanic thinks it's a seal inbetween the two parts that may not have been replaced correctly or has perished.
