The car is a 2019 Ibiza 1.0tsi 110 FR. I have noticed over the past few weeks the engine cooling fan comes on with an engine start from cold and doesn't go off again until the engine is turned off. The fan does not run on after the engine is turned off and doesn't come on and go off with the ignition.

The car runs perfectly in all other respects. There are no dashboard lights or OBD11 fault codes. The HVAC and air-conditioning all work perfectly. The air-conditioning is off so it's not that which is turning the fan on.

Even though the Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) which acts as the fan switch down by the bottom of the radiator was not defective (resistance 1.522 Ohms) I changed it anyway. Still the fan stayed on. I haven't changed the one behind the cylinder block as it is difficult to get to. Disconnecting the 2 pin sensor triggers a fault code which I cleared showing the system works.

Still no success the fan is on all the time. There appears to be a fan control module I've nor looked at but it must be OK as I have no fault code. If anyone has any ides as to what's happening here I'll be grateful. I took the car on a long fast run this morning and got the oil temp up to 98oC in the hope that a GPF regen was all that was needed Still with no joy.

Is it just me or do they all do this ? As I would not expect the fan to run all the time unless at full operating temperature, DPF regenerating or with the air-conditioning on ?

Cheers

All I can say is, I've read about this sort of cooling fan behaviour in the past, but unfortunately can't remember what exactly was causing it, though that should mean that a Google search using a suitable term should help you (and what that search term/phrase needs to be I can't say - sorry).

Edit:- suggesting "fan controller" is just a guess, and that would not necessarily show up in a scan.

I am now thinking the "fan control module" FCM may be defective ? I can't be absolutely sure as the symptoms aren't classic. Normally when the FCM fails the fan doesn't work at all and the engine may overheat. I'm thinking I'm probably shaping up for a trip to the local VW Service Centre.
