Hi Guys,

Got a problem with the cupra.

Last few weeks ive been getting a bad creaking noise when braking and accelerating. More noticeable when its dry.

Its been into the garage and got told the dog bone mount was knackered. No problem, it sounded right as I had the car jacked up to change a starter motor and noticed there was a bit of play in the mount.

Had it changed and unfortunately no luck in solving the problem.

Ive had a quick search on the forums and to me it now seems like a top mount bearing. Again this does make sense as I do have a slight knocking sound if I hit the many potholes in the road around here.

So my question, is it a top mount bearing/bush etc...?

Cheers

Sorry to revive an old thread.

I had the car fixed and it turned out to be an "absolutely f*cked" ball joint (the exact words from the garage).

They are fairly cheap too.

I hope i can offer some help to the next unlucky person with the same issue.

Thats the thing, it wasnt.

I wouldnt have said anything like a ball joint. Everything felt tight.

It did feel loads better when i had it back, like sharper handling but i only noticed an improvement.

I wouldnt say it felt at all wrong before getting fixed.

Can you feel it?

I did think it was subframe bushes but turned out to be the drop link.

the only way i can describe it was a knocking type sound that also creaked like hell when pulling off and changing gears with high torque that gradually got worse and did it all the time.

There was no obvious play when the car was jacked up (when i checked anyway).
