CTRs cheaper than LCRs?

Hi all.

This is an addon post really to the oldage of a CTR v LCR.

I have been on the lookout for an LCR and will eventually buy one this August as a family car. I chose it above the CTR first and foremost due to 5 doors opposed to 3 doors.

However, I would have thought the CTR is the better known of the two cars and more people will buy a CTR over and above an LCR but the CTR's prices seems to be a lot lower than a similar year/mileage LCR (sometimes the case can be £1,500 cheaper). Why is this?

I thought as far as brand names goes, a Honda would be a more popular choice than a SEAT.

Any ideas?

When I was buying the CTR was my other option. It's cheaper than the LCR when bought new (or was) so I suppose assuming they deprieciate at a similar rate, the price difference will remain.

I think it's mostly down to the fact that the LCR is a bigger car over all, and also I think it's standard equipment level is higher than the CTR...

I always thought the LCR was classed as the cheaper alternative to the fastest hot-hatches which I would have thought included the CTR. I also thought the CTR was more expensive to buy than the LCR when it came out.

I have to say though, having driven the two, the LCR is a much better car for me and my circumstances considering mainly the fact that the LCR comes with 5 doors plus it has a far superior spec (as standard). Although the Recaros in the CTR were super comfortable and much better than the LCR's Recaros. I also found the LCR was more roomier without the Recaros.

Cheers for the clarification - Cobraman2007

Holy crap... that's an aweful standard.

I didn't spec my car, (2nd owner), but its fully loaded and it cost me £6,000. 60k on clock, 03 plate face-lift Cupra.

What would that same £6k buy you in terms of a CTR, i wonder? I took a look when deciding what hot hatch to take... and I didn't get much for my buck!

well most ctrs have aircon because most of the new buyers had it as an option....so most ctr's would have a single cd player, aircon, electric heated mirrors, eps..(electric power steering), abs and thats it really.....the whole ethos of the "type r" promotes a stripped out, light, track car.......so the lack of refinements is what it's all about.......seems silly to some, and honda have actually gone back on this with the new type r sticking all the usual refinements in it, satnav, parking sensors etc etc.......

Yeh, I think this has always been the case... the "near" track-ready cars coming from factories like the 306 Rallye etc. were known to be made for drivers, not A-B ers.

Ah well.. I like the performance paired with some creature comforts :D It's 2007 after-all.

sometimes i think like that when I'm bouncing around like a madman on our public roads.....more refinements are a must these days for manufacturers.

Oi.. Don't take the mick. In developing the SEAT Leon.. we filed three patents. NASA only patented 2.3

I'm in the same shopping position too :) I've just had surgery, and to some extent what I buy will be determinded by how well my back heals - but I've been looking at hot hatches and have settled on the LCR. Although credit where it's due, the Type-R is a fantastic car, and that engine is a work of art.
