Can a cupra 280 manual clutch handle a stage 1 remap? Looking to go stage 1 but if I need a clutch upgrade I won’t bother.

Yes it can. When or if I get a cupra. I’ll be doing exactly that.

I’ve heard stories of golf R clutches going even running standard power, I assume they would be similar to the cupra?

The big difference is that the R clutch is driving a 4WD system with much more off the line traction.

FWD cars can't load the clutch up nearly as much as a 4WD can.

That makes sense. I’m hoping it should be fine and I don’t give the car too much abuse.

Yup - some Golf R clutches are made of chocolate! Mine's on 24,000 and I think it might be slipping as the revs rise slightly when shifting from 5th to 6th although it could be the delay valve. VRS in Northampton are VAG gurus and do a sintered clutch for the R at £880 fitted and it can handle over 600bhp. I'm guessing one for the Cupra would be similar although I think the 4wd system, as mentioned, does make a difference.

Where are you looking to get the remap done? As a few places offer a lower torque map for manuals to be easier on the clutch.
