Cupra and Carista

I'm a long time user of Carista on my current car, which is a B8 Audi S4. I'm likely to be changing it for a Formentor VZ2, and am interested to know how big a range of customisations I can make to it using Carista. The range on Audis is pretty wide, but of course the model has been around a long time, so Carista has had time to develop plenty of coding. The things I liked best were being able to silence the headlights on and door open warning buzzers, programme the rear lights be always on (sort of reverse DRLs if you like) and, best of all, change the stop-start default setting to off.

Has anyone had much experience of using Carista on Cupras generally, and the Formentor in particular?

From my understanding, coding hasn't been properly cracked yet. I'd love to hear I am wrong though.

Only coding currently available on the Formentor with Carista or OBD11 is changing the volume percentage of the Soundaktor.

To make any other changes you need Dealer software as most modules are locked under SFD protection from VAG.

Not C sure but @East Yorkshire Retrofits may know as they have tried some coding of the Formentor tor I believe.

Have a look at the Leon 4 Obdeleven coding thread (pro option). You got to get into programming mode. Carista as I understand it is like the Obdeleven micropayment apps. Obdeleven were crafty offering micropayment apps like Carista or the Pro option, programming like VCDS.

SFD is the lockdown by VAG of some of the control units. Control units not locked down you can mod. Locked down ones you can't. Basically VAG wants money from VCDS app suppliers for the ability to mod. Obdeleven people reckon they have an agreement for later in the year on the SFD stuff or some of it but are altering their pricing structure one presumes to pay VAG. Sort of blown a hole in the VCDS mod market for micropayment apps. VCDS suffers the same issue.

Extremely unlikely that will VWAG allow the likes of OBDeleven to access SFD however stranger things have happened. It's a confidential system of which sharing unlock codes is enough to have your authorization revoked.


They introduced SFD as a way of preventing the average car enthusiast from modifying their car on their driveway, and in turn creating issues and destroying control modules.

Funnily enough modules such as 13 - front radar aren't protected by SFD, so I don't think it's strictly a safety issue. They're likely sick of wasting dealer tech time cleaning up after Carista/OBDeleven gone wrong. We've done 30+ cars due to carista in the last 12 months, kept us busy to say the least

As we now have the appropriate authorization/security access, we can offer coding/retrofit services for the MQBevo platform.

We've had a good explore with our Formentor VZ2. We're currently waiting for the final parts for our Beats Audio retrofit to arrive

Well they say 4th quarter but yes I can't see everything being unlocked because why lock it in the first place unless it's to unlock a revenue stream. Time will tell and they have changed the pricing structure to accommodate. Some will be around automation, vehicle safety and legal requirements.

Indeed they will. I am friends with a VAG retrofitter from my many years on Audisport.net. He will be fitting my dash cams to the Cupra and adding power sockets in the boot. He’s also an authorised VCDS re-seller. He’s looking forward to plugging it into the Cupra (it’ll be his first) and examining the scope for customisation.
