Forgive me if this topic is covered elsewhere (I thought it would have been) but can’t seem to find anything.
Basically my question is whether or not I change my Cambelt, rollers and pump etc on my 2002 plate 1.8T 20V Cupra, which has covered 80K.
The car last had a cambelt fitted by Seat in July 2007 (4yrs ago) at the 60k service and has only covered 22K miles since. According to the service book it’s not due a change until 120K on a 60k interval but i’ve read reviews suggesting they should be done every 40K or 4yrs whichever is sooner as they are prone to snapping?
It’s due an 80K service and was going to do it all together until I realised the costs £700+ main dealer £590 independent specialist (prices inc cambelt, pump and major service).
It’s got a full Seat service history, which I’d like to maintain so I was thinking of just getting the service done and leaving the cam belt for now, which is best part of £400.
Has anyone got any advice? Are the belts really prone to early failure??
Kind regards
Alex
