Looking at service plan for my 3 year old Formentor. It says the following are included,

• 1 x Oil & inspection service

• 1 x Oil & inspection service with supplementary scope

• 1 x Pollen filter (replacement if required)

Question being, what is supplementary scope?, anyone know?

Total cost £546 (£22.75 pm x24) is this reasonable for what you get or should I just pay per service?

Also if I were to get rid of the car, can you just cancel and stop paying?

Sorry for all the questions but the dealers would just tell me I need it!!

I think the ’supplementary scope’ relates to additional checks, but I’ve absolutely no idea what those additional checks are 🤷‍♂️.

Whether the service plan cost is reasonable depends on what the comparable Cupra dealership price would be if you paid for each service as it became due - service plans usually represent a saving over main dealer prices if you ‘pay as you go‘. Another consideration would be where you plan to get your car serviced in future - Cupra dealer or a reputable VAG independent specialist; bear in mind that an independent VAG specialist‘s standard rates for servicing may represent better value than Cupra’s service plan costs.

I don’t know what Cupra’s position is with regard to cancelling a service plan mid-term; with VW’s service plans, the position is as below. I’m not sure but I would think this would be the same for Cupra, as AFAIK all VAG brands use a common VWFS service plan product;
  1. the service plan stays with the car for the duration of the plan.
  2. the only right of cancellation is during the usual 14 day cooling off period that’s required under consumer contracts, subject to proviso that you haven’t used any of the services within the 14 day cooling off period.
  3. if the car is sold during the duration of the service plan, the unused portion of the plan can be transferred to the subsequent owner, but the person who took out the service plan is responsible to paying for the cost of the service plan in full before it’s transferred to the subsequent owner.
I don’t know if you could just stop the monthly payments if you sold the car; just stopping payments under a finance contract could (would?) adversely affect a person’s credit score, so it would be best to get clarification on this from Cupra or VWFS.

Thanks. makes a lot of sense. I'm going to buy the extended warranty for a year so will just pay as I go with servicing.

Had a look on the Seat site. They do an all in package , servicing, breakdown cover and warranty. Not available for my Cupra, it says go to the Cupra site where Cupra care is just servicing.
One thing I spotted with the Seat package, an explanation!

supplementary scope:

  • Full vehicle road test
  • Vehicle health check
  • Pollen filter change
  • Full Vehicle inspection and report to include all lights, instruments, glass, braking system etc.
Please note that any parts identified as requiring replacement are not covered as part of the services.

So only what I would expect a proper service to cover anyway.

I just called a CUPRA dealer in the south east and was quoted £475 for the first two services on a three month old Leon 300 - there was no option for three or more years, but another two years could be bought after the first two had passed.
