I acquired a Cupra Black with very low mileage in February. Not long after, I started hearing a ringing sound from the engine area. It is like something is loose, vibrating or grating but it is not always audible. However, I have heard it in all gears, mostly at low speeds and applying a little throttle.
My previous Cupra Black did not have this noise so I naturally picked up on it and it has annoyed me immensely since. I took it to a Seat dealer and an engineer came out in the car for 20 minutes or so. Unfortunately, it did not perform on the day (it was wet at the time) and could not really be detected by him or I. However, his hunch was that it was the turbo damper making the noise and he argued that my previous Black must have had a different form of damper. They did a complementary inspection on the car, raising it as well so they could check underneath. It was given a clean bill of health. Being a novice, I saw the logic in what he said and accepted the diagnosis. Nonetheless, I still feel it is simply not right for a Cupra to sound like that and it irritates me every time I drive it, which is not good.

I have googled the issue but am none the wiser. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Wastegate rattle perhaps? A common problem on VAG 2.0 TSI engines. If you do a Google search you’ll find lots of information and discussions on various forums.
