Same issue with on the mk8 Golf in North American market with the GTI and R models and also in Australia. Cars that are potentially affected have been - or will be - recalled for checks and fixes.

Article below relates to the NA market, but an Australian forum member on vwroc.com forum has posted that VW Australia also have a recall for the same issue.

In my experience with re-calls the UK is always at the end of the queue because in the event of any accident or damage we tend not to sue as often or for as much cash as other countries.
eg. I own an RX-8 and there was a fuel pump fault that could cause a serious fire, the USA owners were informed and the fault corrected over 12 months before the UK owners.
