Cupra PD160 or 1.8T (Previous Ibiza Owner)

Hello Guys,

I am looking at buying another Ibiza (Miss my old one too much)

I used to have a PD130 Sport MK4, had it tuned to 185bhp roughly, FMIC, exhaust, clutch, all the usual.

I sold the car as I had too many faults, engine mounts, gearbox, wiring, speedo, ect ect.

I'm currently looking at PD160 Cupra's and the 1.8T.

I really like both, MPG isn't a big deal, tuning is.

I will be aiming for 300BHP.

With the PD160, I will obviously need a GTB2260VK or similar, injectors, ect.

I have no idea what I would need when it comes to the 1.8T.

I don't really want to be blowing parts, need it reliable to a certain degree.

Can anyone give me some options please, preferably which car you would choose if MPG wasn't a problem and you wanted power and also why.

Thank you!

Sam

Hi I'm running 251bhp on my pd 160 cupra I'm getting a gtb2260vklr turbo which standard take 255bhp with no map or anything that's on the merc so fitting it to mine with bigger injectors and a vacuum conversion should easy hit 300bhp and safely run 2.5bar of boost

IBIZA CUPRA TDI 244bhp

i had the cupra petrol and now own the cupra pd160 i didnt own them back to back but i did prefer the cupra petrol just for the power delivery mainly,i had the petrol tuned and mapped to stage two, where as the pd160 i have is fairly standard no map. mates that have been in my pd160 cupra think that its quicker than my old cupra when it was at stage two. its mainly down to what you decide though if you want need economy then its a no brainer in my opinion.

Basically they are almost identical in terms of performance, the petrol is probably slightly quicker but the diesel has loads more torque. That point at 2k rpm when you floor it and you neck snaps back is a good feeling :p It is a great car for overtaking, it pulls so well at high speed higher up the gears.
Considering they are so close for me the TDI was always the best option, 50mpg and £140 a year tax for one of the fastest diesel hatchbacks on the roads is a no brainer. I pay the same amount of tax I did on my 1.2 SX and I get better MPG.
