Hi guys, have been searching for a few days now on here and various other places for a solution or cause of my problem.

I have the Cupra R 225 and when decellerating or engine braking, im getting a whiring/light grindy noise. The noise goes away if i dip the clutch or put the car in nutural. No noise on acceleration or when the car is just idling.

Has anyone experienced this and if so have they cured it? i was thinking gearbox oil change but it sounds past that stage to me.

Hope to get some help otherwise will be a case of taking to Seat and getting my wallet raped

Thank you

Thanks for the reply. Would you know what gearbox id have or are some different? Mine is a 2004 model 225 BAM engine fwd.

Will be the same on all Cupra R's I'd of thought mate don't know the part number tho

It's defo a 6 speed tho ;) lol

If it were me and funds allowed it I'd get a whole be clutch :D

do you know what. im hoping it is the clutch, will be hell of a lot cheaper than a box lol.

ill get to the bottom of it if it means going bankrupt lol. will keep posted as i have seen a few simular posts with this problem but no solutions that have worked.

thanks again

Sam, are you meaning the thrust bearing in the clutch? That would only usually make a noise when bringing the clutch up when pulling away.

A whine on deceleration sounds more like the gearbox bearings, on overrun they can whine (although saying that my gearbox has had a whine since I got the car, 90k miles and 8 years ago).

Try changing the oil to see if that helps with the noise, and keep an eye on it incase it gets louder/rougher.

noooo, say its the clutch. Well if it comes to it nd the oil change dont help, i guess ill have to get the box inspected and overhauled. lucky i got a 6 month warrenty. Lets see how they try to wriggle out of paying for it.....

I have the same decelerating whine, Specially in 3rd gear in my LCR with 02M FML box. Took it to a box specialist to get my Wavetrac LSD and FX400 clutch installed and he said everything looked normal. Didnt know where the noise was coming from. A mechanic with 40 years as a gearbox specialist. Told me to keep trucking. Wont break.

it just sounds awful though lol. well ill get it checked too and if its normal, guess ill need a louder stereo system!!

thanks for the replys guys.

I have a whining sound but only when i downshift to third from fourth. Nowt to do with braking come to think of...ah well, least i put my contribution in.
