Hi all

Is the ST still coming with the old exhaust or are orders now with the new lighter noisier system?

Thanks

Exhaust

The exhaust is the same on the 290ST as the 280ST. The 280ST was released later than the SC & 5 door. From the get-go the exhaust had no middle silencer. When weight saving, to minimise the gain on the ST, saving from the exhaust was an obvious place to start. The ST being a heavier car yet matching/beating the 'ring time has no doubt been helped by this more free flowing exhaust, along with supposed improvements in how the rear end behave in high speed corners. Whether what is seen in the 290 SC & 5 door is an evolution or adaption of this system isn't spelled out clearly by anyone, but it seems as if it may well be. The extra noise ergo must also be something to do with the ECU. ST = Superior Trackcar, something that doesn't happen by chance. 0-60 times quoted by Seat are nonsense, with decent tyres even more so, as is power & torque output.

Do if I was to remove the middle silencer from my Cupra 280 5 door, it's essentially the same as the 280ST/290 exhaust sound-wise? It's my understanding that the 280sc/5door uses a 2.5inch bore while the new exhausts use a 3 inch so there's going to be an increase in performance there I would assume, but in terms of noise, middle silencer is all that needs to be taken out?
