Hi guys, wonder if anyone could help with an issue Im having.

I've got a 2006 Ibiza Cupra TDI which has suddenly developed a lack of boost below 2.5k rpm. Anything below that feels like severe lag which was not there before. Beyond that mark power is fine, although it is smoking more than normal.

I've had a full diagnostic check done on the car, no boost leaks, no loose vacuum hoses and no error codes. The vnt actuator is working correctly.

It doesn't judder, just feels flat. Also the turbo used to make a good spool up sound below that rev mark and used to give quite a loud boost release noise. That's gone now. I dis notice that it started to whine a little bit at low revs but that has stopped now also.

Anyone had any experience of this? I've searched but only found probs with boost at higher revs.

Cheers

Did/does it make a police siren noise low down which is cyclic when revving? i.e gets faster and slower as you rev?

Don't want to scare you, but mine starting making a whining noise and gradually got worse. Low down power is drastically reduced but midrange & top end doesnt seem as affected. Mine has also started using a little oil each week which it never did.

Turns out the whining is because my bearings are giving up. New turbo being fitted for me next Sat.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it did make that kind of noise pretty loudly, since it's lost the power it has quietened off a bit. I took the turbo off yesterday, just wondering where to send it! Any recommendations?

Well I was going to get my replacement from http://www.turbocharger-solutions.co.uk/ because they are 20 miles from me and quoted about £400 for an exchange. However I've gone with a garage who are doing all the work for me as I don't have time to do the work along with the delay of swapping the turbo.

Not sure how good they are but they were pretty quick at replying to emails.

Try IGT turbos, from £250 to strip and rebuild, to £395 recon

Just to update you, my turbo was replaced yesterday in just under 4 hours and the noise and loss off power have gone. Car feels totally different to drive so must have been on its way out for a while.

Hey cheers for the reply again. Glad you sorted yours, I fitted a reconditioned turbo to mine today from turbo solutions, car is miles better now - must have had a faulty one too!
