Hi All,

I have a seat leon 1.4 tsi stylance and I looking at upgrading the radio to a DAB and I am also looking at adding a usb port. I don't want to upgrade to a high end sat nav unit because of the cost and difficulty of installing. I have been looking at an auto DAB unit that will allow me to keep the existing unit and control the channels by on the control on the wheel. Has anyone else installed a similar unit?

Also has anyone installed a usb add on unit?

Any suggestions

Thanks

Lee

usb upgrade

Hi mate Welcome to the forum. I have a standard head unit on a stylance and I got an adaptor from ebay which is a little black box that plugs into back of head unit and has a sd slot, a usb slot and a jack plug.

You can then format a usb stick to 6 folders and have 99 tracks on each folder. Head unit sees it as a CDC and works great. Only setback is the audio in socket near handbrake has to be disconnected.

If you want more info I'll try and look up the device on ebay (was a while ago)

I'd say keep it OEM and get a VW/ SEAT head unit. The RCD310 and RCD510 are available with DAB and cost arround £200 of eBay. The RNS 315 (aka Media System 2.1/ 2.2) can also have DAB, adds Nav and costs £350 of eBay. Easy enough to fit and a nice upgrade.

I got an RNS310 for mine last month and have been very pleased with it, much better than the factory radio

thats a bit bloody tempting. obviously would need to sort out the battery drain issue on my 06 leon but that wouldnt be too much of a hardship

looking at options now. i think thati'll go for a seat rcd310 with dab. however i want one with red backlight to match in with th rest of the control. anyone know where i can get hold on one at a good price? also is it possible to put add on on this unit, such as usb and bluetoooth?

The red backlight RCD 310 with DAB could be harder to get hold of as that only came supplied with the Alhambra, whereas the Black/ White version comes with most Polos and Golf MK6s so there are lots of them about.

For USB you'd need to get the MDI kit e.g. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271210236753 and for Bluetooth I don't think its possible with that head-unit unfortunately.

RCD 510 may be worth a look as the screen is colour and buttons light up red. It has an SD card reader which makes up for the lack of USB as you can copy your music onto an SD card and leave this in the unit. Bluetooth can be added to this with an additional adaptor. This seems a good price for the head unit on its own - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGE...D510-TOUCH-SCREEN-DAB-BRAND-NEW-/111078911499

ok, I am going to do it and upgrade my existing oem unit with a VW RCD 510 with DAB.

Can you confirm if I will need to upgrade my ariel? if so can someone recommend one - ideally one that replaces the existing?

Where can I get hold of the surrounding trim? - I have looked on ebay but nothing.

Thanks

Lee

You will need a separate antenna, won't replace the existing but supplements it and provides DAB reception. The trim can be purchased from any SEAT dealer for about £13 or purchased from SERE motors on here for a little more to cover p&p

That Knee looks familiar! Yep fitting the RCD510 with DAB was easy, didnt really run into any problems apart from it doesnt seem to fit quite far back enough? Possibly the DAB Antenna so sticks out slightly at the bottom of the unit. (Something for me to revisit). Apart from this tho it works perfectly Seat Media System 3.0 on boot logo and DAB reception is pretty impressive with only a windscreen mounted antenna.
