Hi Guys

Can anyone shed any light on this

I have a 07 Altea and for some reason with 2 out of my 3 keys I get the word SAFE on the dash when I turn the key in the ignition, it covers the trip mileage part of the display!!!

Not sure what it is, took it to Delaer they say i need to buy 2 new keys at £70 a pop, oh yeah plus a recoding fee

Any advice would be great, was thinking about going to an auto electrician to see if they can recode them

Cheers for looking

Dave

it means the car cannot see the imob chip inside the key...
Sadly thats a dealer re-program, nothing that can be done with vag-com :(

There are key places out there that can do the recoding. I went to one in Coventry who could sort me out a new key and program it to the car.

I'd have thought unless the immobiliser chips had failed completely, you should be able to get them recoded. Unfortunately it sounds like the dealer won't even consider the option that the keys might be ok.
