Hi Guys

On the car, I have noticed when driving in the dash the speed is displayed, however it shows it in KM/h rather than MPH, is there a way of changing this??

Its a 12 plate 1.6 tdi Copa SE.

I have checked in all the settings and made sure everything is displayed in UK Miles/mpg, however this is bugging me as I would like it to show the current speed in MPH rather than KM/H, obviously the speedo is there and we can tell off that, however it would be nice to see this work too.

Any ideas??

Thanks
Nilz

Hey buddy, does you normal speedo have KM/h as well as MPH? if not then you may be stuck with it, I remember reading that UK cars must have MPH and KM/h showing at all times by law... so if you have the normal dash speedo showing mph only i think the digital one may have to be KM/h...

I hope that makes sense... it may not even be true anymore see what other people say

Hope that helps

I can't be sure but I think it's designed that way possibly to allow for travelling in other countries where kmph are used and I'm think the kmph versions show In mph on the display (open to correction of course ) and it's much safer than going by the small kmph printed on the clocks

Come now Jimbo, we dont let things like legality get in our way :D

There is a way, you have to go on with vcds and change some setting to RoW - Rest of World. If its set to UK its in KPH only, for the reason you have stated.

change the country of the dash panel to "rest of world" and you can have a large display read out of your speed in mph. only works on large mfd clocks though.

Can you do this through MFD, or is it a VAG-COM job?

needs to be coded with vcds then the rest can be done on the mfd.

The normal speedo only shows MPH, so it maybe why the digital display is showing KM/H.

I will have a go with VCDS and see if we can try out the RoW trick and see if that makes a difference, not the end of the world if it doesnt, will keep you posted on any updates :)

Yes, it's because the dial speedo doesn't have an inner ring showing the relative speed in kph like other cars do so they have implemented kph as a digital readout for when you take the ferry to the continent :)

I'm not sure if there are actually any legalities around what measurements are shown on the speedo. One of my other cars only has kph on the speedo so I have to do the arithmetic in my head to work out roughly what mph I'm doing. It's never failed an MOT like that and I don't use a "friendly" MOT tester.

Speed freak is on the money. In the UK, it's the law that if your car has MPH as it's main measurement of speed, it must also display the relative speed is KPH.
