Hi all, newbie here,I need some help from you guys please, I have new Formentor 2.0 vz tsi. Last week I took it to Halfords to get my dashcam fitted ( Nextbase 522 ).Since then every time the start/stop kicks in it switches off. Took it back to Halfords, Technician says the only place he can wire it to is 12 volt socket fuse. Would appreciate any help you guys could provide.

I saved this video for reference. Seems pretty comprehensive.

Hi there. I have a Formentor V2 Hybrid and have a Thinkware Q800 Pro Front & Rear dash cam fitted. It was professionally installed and hard wired into the fuse box behind the glove box similar to the video above that Tormentor has linked to. It draws power from an always live fuse and switched live fuse. That way it'll fire up when the car starts & also record whilst the car is off & parked up. The start/stop won't affect it at all. I've had no problems with mine whatsoever.
Personally I would never use Halfrauds for anything like this as your case has just shown.
Take it back to them and ask them to install it properly, show them the video if need be, if they won't play then demand a refund.
I hope you get it sorted (y) and welcome to the forum.

"Technician" ...LOL :) This is a pretty basic install.
Honestly, this is not hard at all to do yourself - I have rear camera also and that one was a bit more challenging, specially because I wanted the cables hidden so I had to run them through the brake light cable channels and under the rear hatch trim.

I have installed these myself (Vantrue N4).
All 3 cams work without any problems and I took the power from the centre console from the 12V plug.
before that, I plugged in a 3-way distributor so that I still have the connection free for other things.

That's right, but laying the cable like this was zero effort and I'm on the safe side.
If something should happen to the electronics and Cupra looks in the fuse box.....
I don't know if you'd approve or if you'd give me a hard time about it.

This way I'm on the safe side and the installation took 5 minutes and is also invisible.
I would only go to the fuse box if I needed 12 V continuous current for parking monitoring.
Although I could also get it from the 12V socket.

I have the same issue, dash cam people advised they test for a fuse that is linked to the ignition and use that. I am not keen on a permanent supply, not even sure if there is a suitable fuse to piggy bank on.

I have noticed that if the car been ran say for 10/15 mins it will not go off at the lights/roundbouts etc when the start stop kicks in. Tends to only go and off with the start stop when the engine is cold and cam has not had much power through. Bit of a nuisance isn't it!

I wired my own into the fuses using a proper hard wiring kit. I originally chose(not a Formentor but a similar Leon fuseboard) to use the Radio Display fuse but that doesn't lose power with the ignition off as the radio can stay on and power itself when the key isn't in the ignition. Although my dashcam(RoadAngel) has a parking mode the location of my car means it rarely turns completely off(too much movement) so I changed it to the 12v Cig lighter fuse and works a dream ever since.

If they have already have hard wired it it would be very quick for you to change it. You have to remove the fuse jumper they used, remove the actual original fuse from the jumper/piggy back, put the fuse back in the correct place then go find the 12v fuse, remove that, put that in the piggy back jumper and put that into the fuse location. That should be it then.

In my Leon I used fuse 66 (rear washer). No issues with it trying to turn off with stop/start (and my camera is massively sensitive to power drops as there's no countdown when it loses power, it switches itself off instantly).
