Folks,

Looking for some feedback on DE-DPF. Im seriously considering this mod for my FR 170PD (obviously) and as im very near Glasgow based my only real option would be the Custom Code route (there is a highly rated garage in Glasgow that undertake CCode re-maps etc). I have of course read most threads on DE-DPF, some good, some bad but all seem to end good with transformed cars that will pass MOT, give off a bit of smoke and provide far greater MPG on ‘normal’ drives! Wicked!

I would appreciate it if anyone who has had experience with CCode De-DPF, notably from the Glasgow garage could summarise their experience to perhaps tip me over the edge to do the mod. I have Stage 1 CCode software so it looks like it would cost £745 for the work. Car is just shy of 60k on clock as well (if that should even be taken into account… clutch / turbo age etc?).

Much appreciated,

D

ALright mate, i'm the only one who has had it from Jerry. In the end the car was magnificent! But a lot went wrong in the first stages. In all honesty he is a gd enough chap. But in test he is very aggresive with the cars! He managed to get my clutch slipping something i have never done! when it first went on! And ragged the car from the start to finish! The reasoning for this i believe is to maximise the parameters of the car. The more aggresive you are from the start the more the ecu adapts! 2 of my sensors popped, but i repalced 3 as i bought the wrong one from the garage and you can't return electrical items. One exhaust gas temperature sensor and one lambda sensor! So for the 2 egt sensors i got it was £106 each, and for the lambda sensor it was £113 so was a lot of cash, in the end i'm very happy! I had a stage 1 remapped RR from Henry Roy who a lot of boys on here from West of Scotland go to for there RR days. My car standard was off the top of my head without looking at my dyno graphs made 168.7 bhp and 261 ftlbs of torque, then with stage 1 made 202bhp and 320 ft lbs of torque then with stage 2 made 240.6 bhp and 432 ft lbs of torque. And everyone of the maps was a major jump from the other! It is a good mod, my car was mapped aggresively as i'm lead to believe, and that is one of the reasons i am not seeing the increased MPG it isnt to bad but not as good on my stage 1. But for grunt on a diesel you can compete with the big boys:)
Don't mean to go on mate and hope this helps you, as you are considering. My car had done 12k miles when this was done, as i got fed the usual (the sensors are common to go on these) very cooincidental that 2 went straight after the map on a 58 plate with 12 k miles on the clock..... Aw well all sorted and car is very fun!!!;)

I'm also considering this and I think the expectations are that you might need to replace a couple of sensors on top of the cost of the de-DPF and remap.

I still have a couple of concerns:

1) How it can affect the MOT
2) The increased stress on other vehicle components such as the clutch, brakes, tyre wear and other engine parts
3) The issue of 240 bhp on a front wheel drive car - anyone remember the SAAB 9-5 Hot Aero, a 250bhp FWD car with it's own engineers stating that the absolute bhp maximum for a front wheel drive car should not exceed 220bhp? (maybe the newer differentials solve this... Who knows...)
4) Am I likely to need to revisit the workshop a couple of times after or will it work out of the box, so to speak

I like the idea of 240bhp in my Leon but not the idea of having to stop it with so little rubber on the ground or stock brakes.

If i'm honest with you, i am not a out and out racer type, just now and again i like to give it a bit of beans. Standard brakes are not to bad but if you push the car to near it's limits they can fade quickly at high speed! As far as rubber are concerned i've ran my new tyres, michelin sport 3's at over £200 a tyre for 2k and i reckon i have in all honesty about another 5-6k the way things are going, off the mark is a very difficult thing to do in this car, i find anything below 3rd is very hard to control on any throttle, 3rd can have a tendency to spin but not really unless greasy surface or going off a roundabout with throttle on. It all depends what you want:)

Sounds good to me.
I spend most of my time seeing what MPG I can get from it as opposed to seeing how wrecklessly I can put in in and out of corners - I don't feel comfortable cornering in my Leon yet as it is FWD and my 350z was RWD with more rubber on the ground than a swingers party!

this is why i upgraded my brakes and suspension before i go to get mine De-dpf'd next saturday. As long as you run performance tyres you'll be fine. I never felt confident with the standard brakes, that's why i changed mine for brembo's. If you want a cheaper option try cupra brakes if you have 18" alloys, or uprate the pads, discs and get braided lines fitted. Biggest improvement is getting braided lines fitted.

.

Cupra is 240bhp out of the box and there are a lot of highly tuned ones on here. they all manage with FWD

Heard he likes a bit of VAG too

Personally I wouldnt delete the dpf again. I dont really know of anyone who hasnt had problems. It drives great when it works but when it doesnt its a pig.
Yes some people eg. CC say they have the software sorted but im still VERY sceptical.
REVO were working on a DPF delete for 18 months and gave up because they thought it was too difficult to get the map so it was reliable. Take from that what you will !!!
AMD still havnt sorted theirs and admitted they have lost shedloads on the development of it because they cant get it right.

Who would take on the job of braided lines being fitted and where would you source such parts? Ideally i would go RS4 or porsche setup but then thats costing more than the DPF delete and im keeping it on top of my list so braided lines and uprated discs/pads might be an option for the mean time...

thanks

try a reputable tuner (preferable with VAG experience) near you, they should be able to source the parts for you. I'm not entirely sure whats available in N.I.

you could see if demontweeks can deliver to you. they do the parts your looking for.

As far as im aware demontweeks do delivery to N.I. so i might have a look and see whats on offer, i know of different places around the country but never really know what they would do and what they wouldn't but im sure i can get the hold of someone, thanks for pointing me in the general direction!

The Saab WAS a few decades ago and designs have moved on since then !! mainly around the wishbone stub axle design [ see Ford/Renault high output FWD units] not sure what VAG have done but it seems to work 260hp plus with FWD. .........................................................?!

Sorry to go of topic but dosent the astra VXR use an LSD from factory ?
