Ordered a vagcom cable last week, and have decided to try and program myself a new key, after reading the ross tech website it has told me i need:

SKC number
Workshop code
Importer Number
Date of SKC creation(i think)

My car was in seat today getting temp sensor so i asked them to get those details for me but they turned around and said HQ has told dealers not to give out this information, so the guy was being awkward about giving me the details but after i explained i was just using it for vagcom n that he agreed to give me the details, but required him to reconnnect the car and obtain the immobilizer number, i think for him to get the rest of the info above.

Said he would phone me an hour later but still no phone call today, so i'll phone tomorrow lunch time.

Surely if i own the car i should be entitled to these codes for my car, are seat allowed to hand out this info or is the garage being awkward knowing that they would be loosing out on money since im not getting them to code a key for me...???

Any advice would be great, cheers!!!

If it's out of warranty, then telling the dealer about VAG-COM shouldn't be a problem. Although if you ever go to that same dealer with a problem, expect them to blame it on your screwing around with VAG-COM settings.

If the car is still under warranty, never, ever tell them you are changing ECU settings or other such things! That's there get out of jail card when it comes to repairing your car under warranty, they will just blame you and say it's not covered.

Most of yesterday the SEAT system for obtaining codes was down so there is likely a massive backlog

If you live close to Leicester, Manchester or Teesside I will pull the code for you for free, very easily.

Yes I offered but you didn't seem interested. You were only interested in HOW I could do it if I remember correctly.

naa im still interested, was just a bit odd someone giving up free time to help...

upon investiating it some more, it would seem you would be fitting a new trasnistor in to the key as well presumably and wouldn't that cost me from urself?

Hey I will help anyone who is stuck.
But I'm not going to code you key for you. I will help you code your own key no problem. I thought thats what these forums were for, information and help.
If you want your key coding and are not prepared to help yourself, my advice is go to the dealers and stop wasting my time.

We are just curious about the SKC, i mean your offering to do it for free, n yet your not prepared to share some info on how to do it... i live just outside edinburgh so there no chance of you being able to help me other than maybe a wee bit of info on how to retrieve the codes. I mean don't get me wrong i appreciate the offer, but i don't see much of a difference between you doing it or you sharing some knowledge on how to do it. no loss to you and would maybe help out future people interested in doing this...

well gtd the last time i spoke to this guy about it, he said he had access too ££££'s of equipment and software to get these codes out.

what i found odd, and im not TRYING to offend, but you offered to visit my house and help me for free....

when your dealing with keys and security you have to be very careful and this struck me as a little well over generous in these days and times!!!

im sorry if i casued offence!!!

How you read the skc code is easy. You have to buy the equipment.
You cannot do this through a cheap vag-com lead bought from ebay.
Its specialist locksmith's equipment, or the machine from the dealer.
I don't connect to the internet to read the code.
Every time I have a spare couple of hundred pounds I buy things like this. I have spent more money on equipment, than most of the members on this forum have spent on cars.
As for the security aspect, thats pathetic. I can de-transponder any EDC15, ME7 and recently EDC16 ecu's in 30 seconds. I really don't your skc codes.

Thats great info...

so therefore, are you an auto locksmith by trade then?? do you cut the keys???

I know the transponder can only be used once, so if a key is brought to you, will you pair all the new keys up and change the transponder??

What you have said, ties in with what i have talked to a local auto lock smith has said and will sort my keys all out for £50.
