I just had a rather concerning callback from JCT600 in Bradford telling me they can't give me a price for my service at the moment as their internet is down?!?

WHAT?!?

Did they mean internet or network? In this modern age, it's quite feasible that their systems are all interlinked and pricing, etc is on a central computer system somewhere else.

It's a pretty weak link in the chain though don't you think?

Plus I'd have thought a common 60k service and cambelt wouldn't exactly be stretching things for a price!

Last time I went into listers in coventry they had the main service prices on a board behind the service desk. Don't see why they wouldn't ahve it written down.

But maybe they don't want to commit without putting your reg in to confirm the work that needs doing more than to get a price for the work, plus you could have got a numpty and someone else could have told you the cost anyway.

nothing against todays staff but days gone by the service guy would know your name / car / service reqd / and the cost

nowadays its less knowledge and more volume/service

i would say idiot proofed but thats not fair on those that really do know the job - i should say its more streamlined for nominal users due to shear volume and model differences they have to contend with - aint as easy as it used to be - for sure

I think the trouble is compounded by a streamlining of the entire dealer network.

Appears to be less of them about, selling more cars and then falling down on the servicing and customer care as they are over-worked and understaffed.

As far as main dealer service is concerned, doesn't inspire much confidence when they ask if your Leon Cupra R is petrol or diesel... and they still have to speak with the service manager to get a price, even though the 'price list' is on the wall behind them...

Another time I thought I was being offered an absolute bargain on new LCR pads - less than £100 fitted! Double checked they they were telling me the correct price... "yep, says Cupra here..." When I said "no, Cupra R - Brembo fitment" there was a slight pause... "umm, Brembo?? Don't think we do them..."

Always get my parts & servicing from my local Seat Specialist - absolutely fantastic service, not once have they ever let me down :)

Deev,

Do you know that JCT 600 Bradford are no longer selling SEAT. JCT600 now only sell SEAT at Rawden/Yeadon (Leeds).

I got a standard letter from SEAT UK. It said that Bradford were still an Approved Service Dealer, but that the nearest Authorised Dealers for sales and service are, JCT 600 Leeds, Richard Alexander Huddersfield, and Nidd Vale Harrogate. Didn't make it clear what that actually means for warranty work.

Seeing as any Vat registered garage sticking to authorised parts and service schedule can do a service without invalidating the warranty, and based on the after sales I got after I bought from JCT bradford, I personally will not be phoning JCT Bradford for a service price. Just my own view.

Interesting jtmac. I must admit I only called JCT600 Bradford as I thought they were still a SEAT main dealer - I've not actually been past them lately. So are there any garages in the area you'd recommend? Frankly the price the stealers are quoting me for my cambelt and waterpump change are silly. I've booked into a dealer for the main service for a nice SEAT stamp in the book, but I'm happy to go elsewhere for the cambelt. I'll supply the OEM parts - I just need the graft! :)

I live in bradford but I work in York so I've had my last service at Wills and Ellis in York (Seat dealer).

If you look in the dealer section you'll see that a lot of people like Richard Alexander in Huddesfield and there some kind of discount scheme for members of SCN. I've not used them yet but I'm temped to give them a try next time.

As for independants, I don't really know. I've always stuck to dealers so far because I'd always believed the myth that it must be a dealer stamp. It was only when I joined this sites that I'd found out about this.

I'd be interested too about a good local garage if anyone else knows one.

Try NiddVale - their service pricing is very straight forward and appointment time is great.

Carl and the rest of the service team really make you feel like an individual.

You always know up front what it is going to cost so not met with any nasty surprises.

My Car is in with Richard Alexander next week for a 30k service, I know the chaps will do a good job better than JCT600.
