just a bit of info for no apparent reason...

A catylist is something that starts or excellerates a chemical reaction, but importantly is not consumed in this process. - ie it would last forever.

- why do CATs cost what they do? - well, as it happens the best catylists happen to be genrally metals in the platinum group of metals. (PGMs..) and so CATS on cars contain PGMs!
This is why you get a good price when comparing it to another item of simlair weight.
If a CAT overheats such as fuel entering the CAT then the bond keeping the metals in the CAT can burn off/break down. So a knackered CAT might not have much PGM left, while one taken off as part of a performane upgrade (rather than due to failure) may be a good buy for the scrappy.

Hench why they cut them open and have a look before grading them and getting you're money.
