Hi folk's,

After a break of over 8 years I'm now on the verge of buying another Leon.

Previously bought a new Cupra back in 2003, now want a Cupra R, probably 05 reg.:D

My question is, did Seat ever fix the dreaded door seal leak problem on later cars?

Should I still check the carpets even on a MY05 LCR?

Thanks for any info. Can't wait to have some fun.;)

Cheers,
Xizor

It varies from car to car. My old 2002 is fine apart from the passenger door (it's now dad's car, so I need to fix it!)

The replacement is a 2004 and all four doors are fine.

As above. My 2004 was ok until last year then all 4 doors slowly started leaking, if its been in the garage most of its life the seals won't be as perished I suppose, but eventually they will leak unfortunately, 2 hours fixing them properly and they'll be good for another few years :)

This isn't just a Seat problem, it's generic to Mk.4 Golf based cars. The self-adhesive foam seal between the ancilliaries carrier (carries the windows, speakers, door locks and switchgear) and the door breaks down allowing water from the windows to leak into the car.

The fix, applied by VAG to cars that are brought in to the dealers, is to remove the foam seal and apply a non-setting butyl rubber seal in its place. This can be done without taking the carrier off completely: leave the top bolts in place but loosen them off so the carrier can be swung out. You can get round three sides of the carrier this way.

I've stripped both my front doors and 1 rear door and sealed myself with clear bathroom sealant, after about 1 and a half to 2 years the first door I sealed has now sprung a leak again and my passenger footwell is sodden but the weather doesn't look like letting up for a while which is annoying me as I can't fix it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Guess I better check for puddles.

Off to see a LC R on Saturday. Same colour as my old LC, Arctic Grey. Clearly the fastest colour! :D

Great to see that the forum is as friendly as it was back in '03.

Cheers,
Xizor :)

Cant obviously do this until you buy it but I took my door cards off and sat in the car whilst the missus hosed the car, this identified where it was leaking, including it coming through the speaker surround. I used the Butyl stuff, worked a treat

I've had the door seal problem on both my old 02 Cupra R, and now just starting to get it on 04 Cupra TDI.. easily fixed with a bit of black silicone sealant... I just put some in the groove underneath the seals and had no leaks for over a year.. not a permanent fix but cheap and easy...

PS Black is DEFINITELY the fastest colour ;)
