TEESSIDE
currently driving an fr170 pd. was told to avoid morrisons and supermarkets when filling up as it has biodiesel in the fuel they sell.....is this correct. ever since i was told this have been sticking to using shell filling station on my way to work

They probably all do, isn't there some requirement to sell a certain amount of biofuels these days? I believe some places use bioethanol to make petrol of >95RON too, as that on its own is about 108RON or something.

Why would you avoid biodiesel anyway? Makes the exhaust smell a bit, but I've never heard of any issues with the stuff, and I've travelled quite a long way in a vehicle powered by it (not my own though!). My mate even made his own once in his shed.

im using Shell fuelsave trying to avoid supermarket fuel were possible

not had any issues so far touch wood stays the same

I use what ever fuel station pops up first but mainly the cheeper brands like morrisons asda tescos etc on my pd160 stage 1 Cupra tdi and I ain't had any problems so I would ignore that rubbish the dealer said lol

I stayed away from Morisons

Dad runs a taxi company, We bought a brand new Ford minibus and within 6 months it had two sets of injectors, ford did some research and asked where it had been fuled, Morisons was the answer

I'm sure I read somewhere that Tesco (or one of the big supermarket groups) share depots with Shell anyway :/ either way, I try and fill up at whatever has a reasonable price.

All this Vpower diesel hype is just extra detergent. The cetane levels are just a tiny bit higher that's all. They say that the cetane levels are like 5% higher but when you read the small print is says "up to" 5% higher so in fact it could be exactly the same as the cheap stuff but with a squirt of wasjhing up liquid in it. And that's pretty much what it actually is.

Correct. My dad has inspectors working for shell and he got shown round the plant. A lot of supermarket fuel is actually produced by shell in Ellesmere Port.

You saying that i worked on a fuel depo and most of the main suppliers were parked up there . I doubt they all have different storages for different suppliers , prob is all the same stuff just depending on what depo the fuel has come from in the first place

Centain don't make any diffrance is a tdi engine unlike what it does in a petrol engine.
In a petrol engine well high performance engine the higher centain level allows ur engine to advance in timing there for gives higher power.
A tdi engine can not be advanced at all so there for the higher cetein don't make any diffrance at all.
Fuel is fuel for a tdi.

I have to disagree to an extent.

I have used ASDA, BP and Shell in my current 1.6TDI. Whilst it may not make much difference to reliability, there has been a difference in fuel economy.

Running on ASDA fuel my tank average was around 4mpg lower than with Shell, and BP was 3mpg lower than shell (hand calculated, Millers in every tank). I do between 780-850 miles per tank, so 3/4mpg is a fair difference.

The VPower diesel stuff is hype (as proved by a member on here who ran it for around 10 tanks), but I think in general there are differences in the 'normal' fuel at the pump, and it depends on the additives being added to the fuel. All fuel is the same base, but the additives per company are different, and are added at the pump.

Regarding bio fuel content, I believe Morrisons run at 7%, which is higher than any other garage. Biofuel is bad for the DPF, so on that basis, I'll be putting as little as the stuff in as possible.

I thought chucking in millers was the equivalent if shell v power or any other high performance diesel?

Some of the cheaper places will even place a bit of heating oil in their diesel :/

The only diesel you can guarantee is of the up most quality is the red kind. They wouldn't use it on million pound quarry machinery, trains etc. if it wasn't.

Bio diesel won't do any harm, you can run pd's solely on it as long as you adjust your service intervals regarding the fuel filter.
