Hey up everyone. First off I'm sorry if this has been covered, but alas I can't find it for this problem.
Iv got a leon 12 plate FR supercopa. Now then when I first start car up on drive I get a real bad smell of diesel fumes in the cabin. I thought maybe this was coz the car was cold.... Even tho iv had other diesels and they didn't. So once o get going the smell is gone. UNTIL, I stop at traffic lights or roundabout. The smell drifts back into the cabin. So it's surly got to do with a dodgy exhaust.
It's booked into dealer who said they have once had another car in the same once and found some clip missing. He also added the exhaust is very close to the environmental control of the car thus getting the smell sucked though.

I would like anyone with any experience to please add to the comments below. So I can shove all the theories in the dealers face!! Coz I know it will be fault not found. BUT iv got 2 young kids and if its always present then I really don't want them getting sick.

Thanks in advance. Parky

Can I add, it's the diesel exhaust SMELL not raw diesel out of the tank or fuel lines.

Funny that, my Supercopa suffers with this too. Ill call Marshall on Monday.

Can you let me know what the garage say? Mine have fobbed me off.... But taking it back in with other faults!!

I've noticed it quite a few times, I deffo won't be fobbed off.

I wonder if a carbon monoxide sensor would help you? If fumes are coming in surely it would go off?

Anyone else with a new Supercopa soot chukker had this?

Any FR had this?? I put my carbon detector in the car for 10 mins and it didn't register.... But maybe that's just for gas?

Does yours do it when you've been driving then stopped at traffic lights? I get a smell every now and then. But worst first thing in morning.

Yes, it's noticeable when its cold, first thing. I have had it stuck in traffic but thought it maybe was the car in front, but sussed it was mine.

I've just had the dreaded oil pump failure on my 57 plate bmn engine fr that ment a new engine (well a recon engine anyway)
Since the new engine I've had the same smell did either of you chaps get the smell sorted??????

I had a car that used to get exhaust fumes in the cabin when started or when sat at the lights.

It was the boot seal that was causing the problem, the boot catch wasn't adjusted properly and the boot wasn't squeezing down on the seal fully.

It wasn't a MK2 Leon but maybe this info will help.

Thanks for the info but its coming though the internal vents. My beloved car is getting towed back to dealer! Iv had enough!! It's died 4 times now. All electrical items die won't start! Iv got seat assist coming to take car away and get sorted.
I put it in reverse and a loud beep followed by the car dying. Tried a restart and it wouldn't even turn over dead nothin! I left it for 10 mins and the car started but had warning lights all over dash. I pulled away and poof they dissapeared!
This also happens when I was driving!!
Needless to say they either fix it or they can have it back!

Oh when u wash your car check under bonnet, iv got a pool of water that sits in oil filler cap the the soft felt stuff that sits under bonnet has gone white! So they can fix that too. Another common fault.

I feel like iv bought a lemon!!

So the electrical problem was sorted... Was a loose terminal on the battery. Was not tightened enough. That should solve the cutting out. Waiting to see about other things!

Right so the fumes problem is sorted. There was a leak at the gasket between the turbo and cat. They resealed it and put a clamp around to stop the problem again.

Westerns Seat just outside Newcastle upon Tyne. Yeah had it new was pre reg with garage. It's took me 3 month to get it into garage!! But at least it's sorted for now! Hopefully.

Funny enough my Leon Fr seems to do the same. It has been to the garage once to get looked at and nothing came up.

I know the lead technician in my local seat dealership so trust him for checking everything.

Parky sorry I didnt get back to you... since writing that before, mines been fine so its not been back.

Glad yours is all sorted :)

How much would this cost to fix, gasket will be fairly cheap, more the labour costs?

Can this gasket affect performance?
